Though we at P.A. Scotland are not fans of Davidson or the Conservatives, a feeling which is probably mutual, she does make a good point.

The SNP's time in office has been a period of decline for Scotland. Our schools, once acclaimed throughout the world, went uninspected for ten years and have seen their educational outcomes become some of the worst in Europe; our health service, once itself in robust health, now struggles to provide even a basic level of service; our economy is sluggish at best, and we have seen declines in life expectancy while drug deaths and homelessness are on the rise. Meanwhile we have had repressive laws such as the hate crime bill foisted on us, immigration increased and LGBT promoted as desirable lifestyles to our children. We have seen lies and fraud from the SNP elite on a regular basis, yet people still vote for them.

The people of Scotland need to realise that the SNP are not the saviours of Scotland but quite the opposite. Wake up and vote them out!

On this day in 1933 an article appeared in the Inverness Courier about a large "beast" or "whale-like fish". The article by Alex Campbell, water bailiff for Loch Ness discussed a sighting by Aldie Mackay of an enormous creature with the body of a whale rolling in the water in the loch while she and her husband John were driving on the A82 on 15 April 1933. The word "monster" was reportedly applied for the first time in Campbell's article, although some reports claim that it was coined by editor Evan Barron.

This article ushered in the modern era of interest in the Loch Ness monster and sparked a rash of monster hunting on the Loch, though the earliest report of a monster in the vicinity of Loch Ness appears in the Life of St Columba by Adomnán, written in the 6th century AD. According to Adomnán, Columba encountered people burying a man they claimed had been killed by a water beast in the river Ness. Columba sent one of his followers into the river and the beast appeared but the man was saved.

2022-05-02 01:24:32 Well-done to all the P.A.Scotland activists who helped us distribute over 10500 leaflets in April for DRAMA. Fifth place isn't great for us but i suppose we had to let someone else win for a change.
Top effort folks.

Today is Beltane

Beltane is the Gaelic May Day festival. It is held on 1 May, or about halfway between the spring equinox and summer solstice. Historically, it was widely observed throughout Ireland, Scotland, and the Isle of Man. It is one of the four Gaelic seasonal festivals—along with Samhain, Imbolc and Lughnasadh

The word ‘Beltane’ roughly translates as ‘bright fire’ and, as such, one of the most important rituals, which survives today in our modern festival, concerns the lighting of the Beltane bonfire. Fire was seen as a purifier and healer and would have been walked around and danced/jumped over by the members of the community. Farmers would also have driven their cattle between bonfires to cleanse and protect them before being put out into the fields.

In ancient communities, all hearth fires would have been extinguished and a new neid fire lit which would have then been used to relight people’s hearths in their own homes. In this way the community was connected to each other by the sacred fire .

On this day in 1940 the French destroyer Maillé Brézé sank off Greenock in the Clyde as a result of a accidental explosion.

About 25 of the crew died but the majority survived. The sailors were brought ashore and were taken to halls in Greenock.

The dead were buried in Greenock cemetery until 1946 when the bodies were returned to France. There was a service for those who had died in St Mary’s Church. Many locals believe that the Free French Memorial in Greenock was erected on Lyle Hill in memory of the dead of the Maillé Brézé. This remains a common belief in the Inverclyde area, but is incorrect as the sinking occurred a few months before the Free French Naval Forces came into being, and there is no mention of the ship or its sailors on the monument. There is a more modest memorial to the lost crew of the Maillé Brézé at Brookwood Cemetery, Surrey.

With one in six shops lying empty in Scotland it appears that the SNP has no idea how to reinvigorate our dying city centres.

Anyone who has been in Glasgow within the last few years can see how badly this is affecting our city centres. Sauchiehall Street used to be a vibrant shopping area with a mix of large chain and independent stores. Now it is a wasteland, with many of the shops shuttered and defaced with graffiti. The streets are dirty, begging and antisocial behavior is rife. It is a situation that is played out across the towns and cities of Scotland.

Retailers, especially, need help to weather the storms that have engulfed them in the past few years and are still coming. City centres also need new ideas with more housing (a chance to tackle our affordable housing crisis), art and leisure facilities. It is also a chance to maybe green some areas of our town centres.

Whatever, the SNP seem yet again to be mismanaging things and have no vision for the future.
