When a man can be convicted twice of having a hoard of depraved sexual videos of the most extreme kind featuring children but still walks away from court without a jail sentence there is something very wrong with the legal system. How is this justice? How is this protecting the children of Scotland?

Having these images is not a victimless crime. Children's lives are going to be blighted for ever by this and though maybe the person possessing the media did not produce it they have created a demand and are complicit in the crime of their production.

Anyone involved in sexual activity or the production or ownership of sexual material involving children deserves a long jail term at the very least. Open / Comment

One in seven young people in Scotland goes without breakfast and 20% of working age people in Scotland are in food poverty. When it comes to students 35% have considered dropping out of their courses due to financial pressure and 64% are suffering mental health issues due to financial pressure.

Given that our country is in dire need of economic development, we need to be investing more in our students to create entrepreneurs and a skilled workforce. They need a level of financial support that will enable them to study without financial pressure. Open / Comment

2022-04-23 11:14:24 On this day in 1123 King Alexander I died aged 45 at Stirling . Pictured above is his seal.

Alexander I (medieval Gaelic: Alaxandair mac Maíl Coluim; modern Gaelic: Alasdair mac Mhaol Chaluim; posthumously nicknamed The Fierce, was the King of Scotland from 1107 to his death. He succeeded his brother, King Edgar, and his successor was his brother David. He was married to Sybilla of Normandy, an illegitimate daughter of Henry I of England.

Alexander was, like his brothers Edgar and David, a notably pious king. He was responsible for foundations at Scone and Inchcolm, the latter founded in thanks for his survival of a tempest at sea nearby

For all his religiosity, Alexander was not remembered as a man of peace. John of Fordun says of him:

Now the king was a lettered and godly man; very humble and amiable towards the clerics and regulars, but terrible beyond measure to the rest of his subjects; a man of large heart, exerting himself in all things beyond his strength. Open / Comment

2022-04-23 11:04:20 The SNP authoritarian power grab continues. If Sturgeon and her cabal can get this through Parliament they will have given ministers the power to shut schools, announce lockdowns and close hospitality businesses without having to get the permission of Parliament.

The SNP are determined to cling onto ever bit of power they can. The people of Scotland should reject the intolerant, authoritarian SNP/Green alliance at the coming council elections to send them the message that we won't stand for this any more! Open / Comment

2022-04-22 09:57:33 On this day in 1838 the SS Sirius, which ha been built by Robert Menzies and Sons shipbuilders in Leith, arrived in New York, making it this first steam-powered paddle steamer to cross the Atlantic.

Overloaded with coal and with 45 passengers, Sirius left Cork, Ireland on 4 April and arrived in New York after a voyage of 18 days, 4 hours and 22 minutes (8.03) knots.The normal westbound passage by sailing packet was 40 days. When coal ran low, the crew were alleged by the newspapers to have been forced to burn cabin furniture, spare yards and one mast, inspiring the similar sequence in Jules Verne's Around the World in Eighty Days. However, in reality the crew were able to manage and conserve the stocks of coal by burning four barrels of resin instead, and still had 15 tons of coal left on arrival in New York. Open / Comment

2022-04-21 15:11:19 After already foisting the much maligned hate crime bill on the Scottish people . The SNP have now decided to try to push through more authoritarian legislation.

Though it will be interesting to see how they manage to balance the move to criminalise misogyny and their favourite trans activists . Will biological male transactivists fall foul of these laws when they attack biological female women's rights activists?

This is more legislation that the Scottish people do not need and it appears that truly the only people in Scotland soon who will not have "protected characteristics " and will be open to abuse will be straight white males. Open / Comment
