If ever you needed proof that Scotland is a small nation bursting with talent and potential you just have to look at the recent commonwealth games in Birmingham.

In those recent games the small team that went south to compete lifted a total of 51 medals including 13 gold medals.

Scotland maybe a small country but it has always punched far above its weight in every sector from sports to innovation to academia.

There is a lot for the indigenous population of Scotland to be proud of and the future can be even better for our Nation.

After the announcement that the average energy price cap is set to rise to £3,549, a massive 80% rise, many people are understandably terrified about their finances and how they are going to weather the storm that could see a further rise to over £6,000 next year.

But there is one group in society who will not be worried about how they are going to pay for these horrendous increases: MPs.

MPs are predicted to be shielded from the worst of these rises, as there is no limit to what they can claim on expenses.

Some politicians have been refunded amounts far higher than the current or forecasted energy price cap on average energy bills.

Former Health Secretary Matt Hancock expensed £2,751 on oil deliveries last year, when the cap for the estimated annual household energy bill was below £1,200.

It's time for people to take a stand against the current political system that is not serving the needs of the people of our nation but only a small political and financial elite. Time for change.

Large amounts of media attention, a banner visible for miles over Dundee, placards placed all around Glasgow city centre in broad daylight and thousands of comments on social media in the aftermath of furious news articles about our exploits.

The brave activists of PA Scotland have caused an absolute storm with their activism for Indigenous Peoples' Day and today is the last day that we can vote for the winning region. Vote for Scotland to keep the IPD trophy where it belongs here:

On this day in 1565 Mary, Queen of Scots led her forces out of Edinburgh at the start of what was know as the chaseabout raid.

The Chaseabout Raid was a rebellion by James Stewart, 1st Earl of Moray ( pictured above), against his half sister, Mary, Queen of Scots, on 26 August 1565, over her marriage to Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley. The rebels also claimed to be acting over other causes including bad governance, and religion in the name of the Scottish Reformation. As the government and rebel forces moved back and forth across Scotland without fighting, the conflict became known as the "chase about raid." Queen Mary's forces were superior and the rebel lords fled to England where Queen Elizabeth censured the leader.

Moray stayed in England at Newcastle over the winter and returned to Scotland on 10 March 1566. Mary had summoned him for trial, and David Rizzio had just been murdered. Moray was reconciled with Mary and back on the Scottish Privy Council by 29 April 1566

West Dunbartonshire has the highest rate of homelessness in Scotland. As it stands there are 1,404 people per 100,000 suffering from homelessness in the region, which includes sofa surfing as well as rough sleeping, compared to the Scottish average of 632 per 100,000.

At the same time as West Dunbartonshire is suffering a massive homelessness crisis,it is still offering homes to Afghan and Ukrainian refugees.

It appears that they're able to house incomers but not the indigenous population.

The question the Scottish people need to ask of Sturgeon is: what is more important to her, the Scottish economy or raising her own media profile and getting yet more attention with Fringe appearances?

Sturgeon has attended the GERS (Government Expenditure and Revenue Scotland) report ever since coming to power but it now appears she has other priorities.

The report is important as it shows how much revenue has been raised in Scotland and how much expenditure the Scottish government has in the last year. It also shows the notional deficit or surplus that Scotland has in public finances. Though not an actual deficit or surplus it is an indicator of the financial health of our nation.

Obviously a third appearance at the Fringe is more important than how well - or badly - Scotland is doing. Hopefully the present state of the capital's rubbish-strewn streets will not interfere with her making her way to her Fringe appearance.

Oban's 'Pride' event has decided that as part of their "celebration" they would put on one of the disgusting drag queen story hours in September.

There has been a lot of opposition to these events south of the border. Argyll and Bute Feminists have raised objections to this event in Oban, pointing out, quite rightly, that drag is not meant for children and it presents a hyper-sexualised picture of women with many misogynistic elements.

Hopefully other local groups will raise objections to this event. The Council should not be allowing such an event to take place in a public building in the first place.

Our children need to be protected and allowed to enjoy their childhoods free from sexualised degeneracy forced upon them by adults.

On this day in 1305 William Wallace was executed in London.

Wallace had evaded capture by the English until 5 August 1305, when John de Menteith, a Scottish knight loyal to Edward, turned Wallace over to English soldiers at Robroyston near Glasgow.

Wallace was transported to London and taken to Westminster Hall, where he was tried for treason and for atrocities against civilians in war. He was crowned with a garland of oak to suggest he was the king of outlaws. He responded to the treason charge, "I could not be a traitor to Edward, for I was never his subject.

Following a trial ,Wallace was taken from the hall to the Tower of London, then stripped naked and dragged through the city at the heels of a horse to the Elms at Smithfield. He was hanged, drawn and quartered—strangled by hanging, but released while he was still alive, emasculated, eviscerated and his bowels burned before him, beheaded, then cut into four parts. His preserved head was placed on a pike atop London Bridge
