On this day in 1573 Sir William Maitland died in prison in Leith.

Sir William Maitland of Lethington lived from 1525 to 9 June 1573. He was a politician who rose to become Secretary of State to Mary, Queen of Scots.

After Mary's abdication Maitland served in the Regents goverment. But eventually sided with the rebels who sought to reinstate Mary and took part in seizing Edinburgh Castle.

The Regent asked for help from England in putting down the uprising and an English army stormed the castle . Some of the defenders were executed and other jailed including Maitland . Maitland died in his prison cell in Leith either due to suicide or an existing condition bit which is not clear.

On this day in 1329 Robert the Bruce died at Cardross aged 55.

Robert I, popularly known as Robert the Bruce, was King of Scots from 1306 to his death in 1329. One of the most renowned warriors of his generation, Robert eventually led Scotland during the First War of Scottish Independence against England. He fought successfully during his reign to regain Scotland's place as an independent kingdom .

Robert I was succeeded by his son, David II. Robert's body is buried in Dunfermline Abbey, while his heart was interred in Melrose Abbey, and his internal organs embalmed and placed in St Serf's Church, Dumbarton.

Yesterday a group of activists took on the challenge of climbing the 1100 metres of Ben Cruachan near Oban.
Cruachan is a difficult climb with a steep incline straight away and not much in the way of a path on the last stretch either.

On this day in 1916 the armoured cruiser HMS Hampshie sank off Orkney. A total of 737 crew and passengers died including Lord kitchener who was on a diplomatic mission to Russia.

Sailing alone in heavy seas, Hampshire was approximately 1.5 mi (2.4 km) off the mainland of Orkney between Brough of Birsay and Marwick Head at 19:40 on 5 June when an explosion occurred and she heeled to starboard. She had struck one of several mines laid by the German minelaying submarine U-75 on 28–29 May, just before the Battle of Jutland. The detonation had holed the cruiser between bows and bridge, and the lifeboats were smashed against the side of the ship by the heavy seas when they were lowered. About 15 minutes after the explosion, Hampshire sank by the bow. Of the 735 crewmembers and 14 passengers aboard, only 12 crew survived after coming ashore on three Carley floats. A total of 737 were lost, including Kitchener and all the members of the mission to Russia.

Today patriots from Scotland's Central Branch took advantage of the weather and delivered over 750 leaflets to the small mining communities of Netherburn and Ashgill.

Every single letterbox in Netherburn received a leaflet, and the locals were welcoming and responsive to our message.

To mark so called world refugee day on the 20th of june Paisley is going to host what they are calling the home sweet home festival on the 26th of June.

The festival is to feature food, music and art from "refugess" and is basically a propaganda effort put on by the SNP controlled council to try and convince the people of Scotland of the so called benefits of multiculturalism. At a time of council budget freezes and rising living costs this seems like a waste of public money to sponsor this event.

Benefits of multiculturalism do not actually exist . Immigration has brought far more problems to the UK than any claimed benefits including urban street gangs, Asian grooming gangs etc.

Multiculturalism is a failed idea but the political elites and the hand wringers of the left it seems will not admit it and are continuing to try to craft a narrative to convince people of its success and benefits.
