Can banks do more to minimise risks for vulnerable customers? Sylvia Lim asked if MAS had considered a previous suggestion to have an option of a cooling-off period for interbank transfers. She asked whether MAS was working closely with banks and FIs on advisories and training programmes to prevent customers from being prey to scams.

-HE TING RU-Today is the lantern festival, chap goh meh or yuan xiao (元宵). We managed to eat some homemade tangyuan (汤圆) to mark the occasion before the older kids rushed off to school and Papa Terence Tan to work.
Also known as Chinese Valentine’s Day, the 15th day of the lunar new year would see young unmarried people accompanied by matchmakers walking around in search of life partners. The tradition of throwing mandarin oranges into the sea or river was believed to have helped young ladies find good spouses, with the aid of a deity matchmaker, Yue Lao (月下老人) or (月老) who tied red string to the ankles for those destined for each other. This practice is now mainly observed in Malaysia and Singapore.
