𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿: Ustadhah Saima Yacoob

𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀:
Beyond Recitation: Tajwīd and Spirituality is a translation and commentary in English on one of the earliest texts of Tajwīd written as a didactic poem, known as the Khāqāniyyah by Abū Muzāḥim. This course presents an opportunity for students of tajwīd to study the commentary with its author.

The text of the Khāqāniyyah explores the topics of both spirituality and Tajwīd. The first part of the text will cover important spiritual topics such as arrogance and its cure, being patient, and ensuring that one’s study of the Qur’an is not divorced from following its injunctions. The course will also go over the topics of Tajwīd and related sciences that are covered in the poem, such as the rules of madd, nūn sākinah and tanwīn, waqf and ibtidāʾ and its connection to the unique orthography of the Qur’an (rasm). As this commentary is written to be a bridge between a study of the science of Tajwīd and the science of Qirāʾāt, the course will also cover brief biographies of the qurrāʾ and some of the differences in the canonical readings, such as changes in hamza, and the rules of tafkhīm and tarqīq of lām and rāʾ and how they differ in other readings.

𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝘆:
Ustadha Saaima Yacoob is the founder and director of Recite With Love. She holds multiple ijāzāt in Tajwīd and the canonical recitations of the Qurʾān as well as a Master’s in Education with a focus on Curriculum and Development. She has been teaching Qurʾān full time for more than a decade, Alhamdulillah, and has experience teaching multiple age groups. Her teachers include, Shaykh Hatim Yousseff, Shaykh Hussain Ashraq Laban, Shaykh Abdullah Abu Mahfouz, and the late Mufti Mohamed-Umer Esmail (May Allah have mercy on him). She has permission to teach as well as to grant ijazah to others through her teachers.

Her greatest passion is to inspire others to recite the Qurʾān with Tajwīd, and to develop future certified teachers of Qurʾān. It is her hope that she continues to benefit from her teachers, and is accepted by Allah Ta’ala to be a source of benefit for the ummah of His beloved Prophet (May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him).

Note: Once registered, you will receive a link to join a Google Classroom. Please ensure you have joined before the course has commenced. Recording and other course material will only be available to sisters who have registered via the Google Classroom.
