Hi SGN Community

Happy midweek! #ICYMI, here is a roundup of some of the happenings this week!

Covid-19: In the update by PM Lee earlier this week, he shared that DIY tests will soon be available over the counter and these alternatives can help to detect and isolate people quickly when they are most infectious. Students aged 12 and above will now be invited to register for vaccinations.

Your vaccine questions answered: But why have some fully vaccinated people been infected? Can you do anything to boost your immunity before getting your shots? With similar questions in mind, CNA’s Talking Point host Diana Ser spoke to infectious disease experts.

Seafarer stories: Read about the journey of Nur’iffah Sohaimi, a marine engineering officer, and how she is “the only woman among 500 seafarers.”

Hi SGN Community

Happy Monday and I hope you are having a good start to your week!

In our saturated social media world of Tiktok and Instagram, recent graduate from New York University (NYU) Tisch School of the Arts and a recent returnee to Singapore, Edward, shares his hopes as a filmmaker – that they “will uphold the art of filmmaking and keep it from becoming completely commercialised”.

“I try not to let film feel like content. As the next generation of filmmakers, we need to make the indie stuff in response to this, because if the product is defined by capital and by a sameness, then it will fail to be art.”

Read more as Edward talks about his journey and how he convinced his filmmaker father, Eric Khoo to let him pursue his passion of filmmaking.

Have a great week ahead everyone!

Hi SGN community

Happy Friday! And you know what that means – it's time for #friyaypoll again!

Dragon Boat Festival is coming up on 14 June so today’s poll is going to be on a little slice of Singapore’s culture! A well-loved aspect of the festival are the glutinous rice dumplings ('zhang' in Chinese), which are triangular, wrapped in pandan leaves and have a wide variety of fillings. However there is more than just one type of rice dumpling!

Do you know the different types of Bak Zhang in Singapore? Check out this CNA Lifestyle article – it has a list of where to get the tastiest ones in time for next month's Dragon Boat Festival !!

My favourite is the Kee Zhang as I can dip it in sugar granules, or even kaya! What is yours?

Have a great weekend ahead!

Hi SGN community

The weekend is almost here, which means it's time for #friyaypoll again! For those in Singapore, we have made it through the first week of phase ‘heightened alerts’! Go us!

Since we aren’t allowed to dine in for now, let’s do a poll on which hawker centres we want to visit once we are allowed to dine in again (or when you come to Singapore!)

After all, did you know that our Hawker centres are considered an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO! Their origins can be traced back to our early days as a trading post in the 1800s, when thousands of settlers, alongside the indigenous population, needed quick, hearty meals to get through the day. To satisfy their cravings, food peddlers would roam with their wares on push carts, but over time, they came to congregate around key social hubs like Raffles Place, forming some of our very first hawker centres! We need to protect our hawker culture!

Have a great weekend ahead!

Hi SGN Community

Happy Midweek! #ICYMI, here is a round up of some of the happenings this week!

Covid-19 in SG: As Singapore heightens alerts to tighter measures, the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine is now authorised to be used for children between 12 and 15 years old. Those who register for Covid-19 vaccination will now have their second dose scheduled 6-8 weeks after the first, and now expanded to those aged 40 to 44. It is recommended that the public wear masks with better filtration capability as cases increase.

The rise of female gamers in Singapore: Women are making inroads in the world of gaming – long regarded as the den of male players – from running businesses to live streaming.

Back to bentos: Within hours of the announcement on that dining-in will be disallowed till June 13, the restaurants that are now mandated to close again for a month are armed and prepared after last year’s Circuit Breaker.

Take care and stay safe wherever you are!
