Have you seen these #texturesofthecity?

Besides a futuristic-looking facade, another notable feature found in this building's surrounding spaces is the use of vertical greenery.
Find out where!

Dating back to the 1840s, conserved shophouses have been a significant part of the urban fabric of modern Singapore.

But did you know that we also work with agencies to enhance the physical environment surrounding these shophouses? Some of our initiatives include creating car-free streets, pedestrian walkways and landscaping to encourage the appreciation of these conserved shophouses.

Here's a helpful infographic for you to identify Singapore's shophouse styles as you explore our built heritage in conservation areas.

Rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. These are 12 Chinese zodiac animals that inspired Singapore University of Technology and Design students to decorate lanterns along South Bridge Road for Lunar New Year. You can also catch these adorable zodiac lanterns via this 360-degree virtual tour.

#DidYouKnow that Singaporean artist Yip Yew Chong has painted over 50 murals across the country since 2015? Of which, 12 can be found in Chinatown.

For example, Dreams of Chinatown is a series of four murals located along Mohamed Ali Lane. Painted on the façade of shophouses, these murals shows us what’s it like living in Singapore back in the 70s.

Also, you can catch Yip Yew Chong’s first solo exhibition at the Arts Porters Gallery in the charming Blair Plain Conservation Area till 14 March.

Here’s a safer way to purchase Lunar New Year goodies. Check out crowd level information at shopping malls and supermarkets via www.spaceout.gov.sg. If it shows that your favourite malls and supermarkets are at maximum capacity, why not consider nearby amenities or shop online? Now you can also support your favourite local hawkers in the comfort of your home, visit www.chinatownhawker.sg. Please stay safe and follow safe management measures.

Have you seen these water features along Alexandra Canal? While they have become familiar rest stops for joggers and cyclists along the park connector, did you know the stretch was once just a concrete drainage canal?

Click here to see more of how the area has transformed from a utilitarian canal into a beloved community spot.
