PATIENCEBe patient with the calamities that befall you, while having faith that these calamities only happen by the decree of Allāh ﷻ, and due to the sins of mankind. As Allāh, the Exalted, said:
وَمَآ أَصَٰبَكُم مِّن مُّصِيبَةٍ فَبِمَا كَسَبَتْ أَيْدِيكُمْ وَيَعْفُوا۟ عَن كَثِيرٍ {٣٠}
And whatever of misfortune befalls you, it is because of what your hands have earned. And He pardons much.* Included in belief in Allāh ﷻ is patience upon the decree of Allāh.
Patience is of three types:
patience upon the obedience of Allāhsuch that you do not abandon it,
patience upon staying away from sinssuch that you do not commit them,
and patience with the painful decree of Allāh ﷻ
such that you do not become angry.
Allāh, the Exalted, said:
وَبَشِّرِ ٱلصَّٰبِرِينَ {١٥٥} ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَآ أَصَٰبَتْهُم مُّصِيبَةٌ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّآ إِلَيْهِ رَٰجِعُونَ {١٥٦} أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ عَلَيْهِمْ صَلَوَٰتٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِمْ وَرَحْمَةٌ وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُهْتَدُونَ {١٥٧}
But give good tidings to the patient, who when aflicted with calamity, say: "Truly, to Allāh we belong and truly, to Him we shall return." Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are the [rightly] guided. **
