2022-06-16 20:43:38 SO THAT vs SO

SO THAT” tells us WHY something is done (similar phrase - in such a way that).
I am writing this post so that you can understand the difference between these two words.
I am writing this post in such a way that you can understand the difference between these two words.
(Action + Purpose)

In contrast, “SO” tells us what happens as a RESULT (similar phrase - that's why).
Explaining grammar can be tricky, so I'll try to give easy examples.

Don’t confuse SO THAT with SO

2022-06-14 21:29:15 "Once there was a seminar hosted in a big city with a huge crowd. It was a big auditorium filled with people. A speaker had an idea. He wanted to do a real-time experiment on these people and show them the power of unity and caring for one another.

He gave some balloons to the audience. Each person was given one balloon to hold for a while. The speaker asked them to write their names on the balloons. So everyone took the marker and wrote their names.

The balloons were thrown in a room. The audience was surprised. When the speaker asked them to throw their balloons in the room, they had no idea what was happening and why the host was doing this. When they did this, the speaker announced something that made every one of them running like it was the last train of the night.

- Take your balloons back, - this is what the speaker said, and then each of them rushed to that room to get their balloons, but they couldn’t. Because they ran like animals without thinking about other’s balloons, they stepped on the balloons causing them to explode. Thus none of them got their balloon.

The experiment was done again. This time the speaker told something different. He asked the audience to take balloons.
- Any one of your choice, and whatever the name you see on it, give it to that specific person.

This time everyone got their balloons, and the reason was that they cared for others. They didn’t rush, which is why none of the balloons was exploded"

Moral: sometimes you gotta make other people successful to succeed yourself.
P.S. sometimes! not all the time.

Common mistake in IELTS Writing and Speaking

Don't put a comma after THAT.
Yes, it's required in some languages, but not in English.

Well, that's not a big deal in IELTS writing, yet candidates make a pause after THAT while speaking too. This is where they can lose more points.

I think that [PAUSE] teachers should conduct more experiments at school.

My peers believe that [PAUSE] audiobooks are useless.
