2022-05-14 10:40:54 Some of my favourite idioms:

1. After all - despite everything
Prisoners should be treated with respect – they are human beings after all.

2. To blow something - to spoil something
My relative blew the interview and didn't get the job offer

3. Not give a hoot - not care about
I don't give a hoot about what they say

4. To make a bundle - to make a lot of money
She made a bundle when the bitcoin price rose in 2017

5. You can say that again - I agree with you
Do you think there are too many cars in your hometown?
You can say that again! I'm so tired of traffic jams.

P.S. these idioms are NOT recommended for IELTS Writing!

2022-05-13 11:45:53 PERSONALITY vs CHARACTER

The main difference between personality and character is that personality shows what you are outside or what you are to the world whereas character reveals what you are inside.
Personality refers to the behaviour of a person. However, it may or may not show the true character of a person.

In general:
• Personality is highly susceptible to changes whereas character remains the same
• It is quite easy to identify personality through observation while character tends to be difficult to identify
• Personality represents who we seem to be while character represents who we actually are.
• The nature of personality is subjective while the character is objective
• The traits of personality are personal and physical while those of character are moral and mental.

P.S. “Personality is easy to read, and we’re all experts at it. We judge people as funny, extroverted, energetic, optimistic, confident—as well as overly serious, lazy, negative, and shy—if not upon first meeting them, then shortly thereafter. And though we may need more than one interaction to confirm the presence of these sorts of traits, by the time we decide they are, in fact, present, we’ve usually amassed enough data to justify our conclusions.
Character, on the other hand, takes far longer to puzzle out. It includes traits that reveal themselves only in specific—and often uncommon—circumstances, traits like honesty, virtue, and kindliness”
(Lickerman, 2011).

More than 200 Certificates have just been delivered to the Intellectuals language centre (21.04 and 23.04).
They can be collected between 14:00 and 14:30.
An ID card or passport is required.
PS: I will NOT be able to give the certificates at any other time.

Did you know that:
an adverb SHORTLY isn't related to size:
* Your letter is too long, so you should write it SHORTLY
* Don't tell me unnecessary ideas, speak SHORTLY
Use it when talking about time:
Her last novel was published SHORTLY after her death
I'll be ready SHORTLY

2022-05-04 21:54:47 Did you know that:

In academic and other formal writing, prepositions are not generally used to end sentences, as such usage can lend an informal, conversational tone to writing.

Formal: These are the monkeys on which the experiment was conducted.
Less formal: These are the monkeys the experiment was conducted on.

Formal: Pop music is the genre that appeals to the majority of teenagers.
Less formal: Pop music is the genre that many teenagers listen to.

It’s not an error to end a sentence with a preposition, but it‘s a little less formal. In emails or text messages it’s perfectly fine. But if you’re writing an IELTS essay and you want to sound very formal, avoid ending sentences with prepositions.

Bulling (eng: Bullying – zo'ravonlik/ta'qib) - shaxs yoki guruhning o'z tengdoshi yoki boshqa shaxsga nisbatan muntazam yoki takroriy salbiy harakatlaridir. Afsuski, hozirgi kunda bu dolzarb muammoga aylanib ulgurdi.

U-report, turli mavzularda yoshlarning firklarini jamlab, tegishli tashkilotlarga yetkazishni ta'minlovchi loyiha, maktablardagi bulling sonini kamaytirish borasida so'rovnoma o'tkazyapti.

Ta'lim muassasalarida bullingni kamaytirish uchun nima taklif qilgan bo'lar edingiz?

So'rov natijalari ta'lim muassasalarida bullingni kamaytirish choralarini ko'rish maqsadida qo'llaniladi.

U-Report so'rovida o'z fikringizni bildiring.

U-Report.
