2022-06-02 19:32:53 ART vs ARTS vs THE ARTS

ART is the activity that consists of creating paintings, sculptures, and other pictures or objects for people to look at and admire
The museum’s art collection includes 900 paintings; approximately 100 sculptures; nearly 2,000 works on paper; and more than 1,000 published and unique prints.

ARTS represent subjects such as languages, philosophy, history and other such non-science subjects.
University subjects and separate colleges are sometimes divided into arts and sciences. Arts include things like dance and photography, but also subjects such as Latin or religion.

THE ARTS mean art, music, theater, film, literature etc all considered together.
Public funding for the arts in the United States comes from federal, state, and local governments. Together, they distribute grants and services to actors, musicians, artists and cultural organizations across the nation.

2022-05-31 14:17:42 The reason why I love short stories is that they don't contain unnecessary information and go straight to the point.

I've never liked long novels, where nature is described in several pages.
The colour of leaves, the whisper of the wind, the flow of water in a river...all these unnecessary details make me sick
Short stories, however, have more attention-to-detail and stronger words, as the writers don't focus on making the story longer. This really helped me in IELTS, 'cuz passages there closely resemble short stories.

When I first took the test, I didn't know any "secrets" but still got 8.5 in Reading without any thorough preparation. Later I achieved 9.0 in this section and that wasn't hard at all.
A lifelong reader doesn't need 'secrets' to get a high score in IELTS reading.
If you like short stories, the one I've posted above is likely to appeal to you...but at the same time it will break your heart.

Did you know that:

To PERMIT is a formal word and, therefore, NOT recommended for IELTS Speaking, just like many other formal words.

My parents do not permit me to stay out late at night - sounds too formal.
My parents don't let me stay out late at night - sounds natural in spoken English.

P.S. permission can be used in IELTS Speaking though
