The prevalence of advertisements is a negative development for two reasons. The most obvious one is manipulation. Advertising is so manipulative that it makes people buy products or services they do not need. Having been constantly exposed to a creatively crafted advert of a product, people tend to have an impulse to buy it. The minute they see that product on the aisle of a supermarket, they grab and put it into their basket without a second thought. Another reason is that advertising gives a false impression of a product. When people see an advertisement, they form an idea about the quality and appearance of the product. If they think it is good value for money, they will buy it. More often than not, the product does not turn out to be as good as advertised, thereby failing to live up to customers' expectations.
