Things To Do in St. Petersburg
St. Petersburg is enjoying real hot summer days, which is why in this issue of our unofficial guide we are going to take you for a walk. All places are situated on the Petrograd side in close proximity to each other, so have a pleasant walk across a beautiful historic district.
Public Space: Karpovka river embankment
Two years ago, there was nothing but a deserted vacant lot here, but now it is a lively place, bustling with life around the clock. The new Karpovka public space was the first one in the city designed with participation of the district's residents, which is partly why locals love this new promenade so much. There are swings, sun loungers, slopes to the water, an amphitheater, art objects, a playground, kinetic sculptures with augmented reality, many beautifully blooming trees, and even workout equipment.
When: 24/7
Where: Karpovka river emb., between Chapaev str. and Pavlov University
Place/Exhibition: St.Petersburg Botanical Garden
On the other bank of the Karpovka River you will see the Botanical Garden. Plants from all over the world are displayed here. This garden is considered one of the best in the country. You don't have to be a botanist to enjoy the walk. There are flower beds as well as shady park areas. There are also greenhouses with orchids, but unlike the park itself, you can only get there as part of a tour group, which is recruited on site.
When: daily 10:00 - 19:00
Where: 2, Prof.Popova str.
Food: Aptekarsky Avenue
One side of the Botanical Garden overlooks Aptekarsky Avenue, which offers a whole bunch of restaurants and bars for every taste: the best pizza in the city, a great steakhouse or an Indian cafe - no one will stay hungry. Some places have outdoor terraces, and there are a couple of rooftop bars as well. You will easily find them by following the signs on the houses.
When: daily
Where: 2-10, Aptekarsky av.
