SEAWEEDS

Seaweeds are (thalloid plants) macroscopic algae, which mean they have no differentiation of true tissues such as roots, stems and leaves. They have leaflet appendages.

Seaweeds, the larger and visible marine plants are found attached to rocks, corals and other submerged strata in the intertidal and shallow sub tidal zones of the sea.

Seaweeds grow in shallow coastal waters wherever sizable substata is available.

Based on the colour of their pigmentation, sea weeds are broadly classified into different classes such as blue-green, green, brown, red, etc.

Seaweeds are important as food for humans, feed for animals, and fertilizer for plants and Seaweeds are used as a drug for goiter treatment, intestinal and stomach disorders.

PLASMA GASIFICATION:

Plasma gasification technology can be used to treat industrial and municipal solid wastes (MSW) and applied to gasify coal.

The plasma technology used to gasify coal in ambient pressure, the plasma fired reactor can be retrofitted into existing power plants.

The potential benefits are:

Greater feed flexibility enabling coal, coal fines, mining waste, lignite, and other opportunity fuels (e.g., biomass) to be used as fuel without the need for pulverizing

Air blown and thus an oxygen plant is not required

Higher thermal efficiency

High conversion (>99%) organic matter to synthesis gas (syngas)

Lower carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions

Low estimated capital and operations and maintenance (O&M) costs

ALLOPATRIC SPECIATION

The physical isolation of the biology population due to the extrinsic barrier is called allopatric speciation.

Allopatric speciation occurs when a population of organisms becomes separated or isolated from their main group due to geographical barriers.

Over time, the new groups consisting of homogenous individuals become subjective to changes via natural selection due to pressure from differences in predators, climate, competitors and resources. Populations can become isolated for a variety of reasons.

MOLECULAR ECOLOGY

At the molecular level, the study of ecology focuses on the production of proteins, how those proteins affect the organism and the environment, and how the environment in turn affects the production of various proteins.

In all known organisms, DNA gives rise to various proteins, which interact with each other and the environment to replicate the DNA.

These interactions lead to some very complex organisms. Molecular ecologist study how these proteins are created, how they affect the organism and environment, and how the environment in turn affects them.

BACKGROUND EXTINCTION

Background Extinction is a process of natural and low-level extinction that goes on continuously due to changes in the environmental conditions; such changes may be small or big, gradual or sudden. When such changes occur, the local species must adapt itself, move to a more favorable area or become extinct.

The background extinction has always been happening and biologists say that 99.9% of all species that ever lived are extinct.

The rate of background extinction has been generally uniform over long geological periods. At some points in time, however, mass extinctions have occurred on earth.
