A Devotional for June 15, 2022
In this series, we are learning about Samaria, and I’ve also learned a lot. While going through this series I’ve been asking myself who my Samaritan is? And how I could preach Christ's love for my Samaritan. For me, Samaria starts with myself. All the fear and anxiety, doubt, distrust, anger, expectations, and disappointment I feel most times. Many of these things have been a Samaritan for many of us. The Samaritans within us will be seen as we engage with people. We do not want to meet people who bring out our Samaritans. People bring out the side of us we don’t like and so we avoid them. So, what can we do to change that?
Before we go ahead and face the Samaria of the world, we must first confront and fight the Samaritans within us. There are places within us we are afraid to touch. But Christ wants to go to those places. With the love of Christ, In the spirit of forgiveness, we must bring these places under His feet. The day I decided to do just that, I was set free. The things that used to easily upset me before seemed so little after that. 1 Corinthians 13: 5, says, love is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs. If not through Christ, it's difficult to not be offended and not get angered easily.
As I surrendered the Samaritan within me to Christ, I’m improving my relationship with others. As we surrender our Samaritans to Christ, We empathize with the weakness of people. We come to understand that our human view is not only of race, and religion, but also of Christ. To my understanding, this journey is not easy; it’s also not something we do once. It must be renewed, always. But the Lord will help us if we make this our lifestyle. It also changes the way we look at the people we consider Samaritans. God can also work wonders through those people.
Life Application
Are there people we do not want to engage with because they have a different opinion than we do? Have our differences turned into unintentional hatred? Let us pray for these people: remember that they are loved by God, and there will be a big party for when they return to God. The Lord will help us. Is there something hidden inside us that has become a Samaritan within us? Today, Christ still holds out His hand of love, and we can surrender it all to Him. Matthew 11: 30 says, "For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."
Prayer
Lord, at this very moment, I will surrender the Samaritan within me and others. I will also take you to Samaria with me. I believe you will help me. Amen!
