Africa is the only continent that is not yet fully integrated into the global economy, Zhang said at the China-Africa Economic Trade Expo.

“Africa is the only continent that is not yet integrated into the global economy,” Zhang said. “Currently more than a dozen African countries in particular, some important economies, including #Ethiopia, Sudan, and South Sudan, are still not WTO members.

It is recalled that Ethiopia resumes WTO accession negotiations after eight-year pause on 30 January 2020.

S&P Global, a rating agency, has cut Ethiopia’s rating to CCC+ from B- following the delay in debt restructuring and great political instability. The company expects the country's domestic markets to play an increasingly dominant role in financing Ethiopia's budget deficit over the agency's forecast through 2024.

S&P still holds a negative position for Ethiopia signaling potential inclusion of commercial creditors in debt restructuring plans, and increasing pressures on availability of external funding.

South Africa will need $215 billion in investment in its cities, Kenya $27 billion and Ethiopia $42 billion, the report found.
