@COVID19Up: Bill Gates cited Australia’s COVID-19 response as the gold standard for countries to follow to prevent the next pandemic.

“If every country does what Australia did, then you wouldn’t be calling [the next outbreak] a pandemic,” Gates, who has invested billions of dollars into COVID-19 vaccine research, said this month.

“They orchestrated diagnostics, they executed quarantine policies, and they have a death rate in a different league than other rich countries,” Gates said. “And everybody had the capability to do that.”

@G3News: Chris Hedges introduces his latest article for Scheer Post, titled "Chronicle of a War Foretold", with the following:

"After the fall of the Soviet Union, there was a near universal understanding among political leaders that NATO expansion would be a foolish provocation against Russia. How naive we were to think the military-industrial complex would allow such sanity to prevail."

Imperial narrative managers have been falling all over themselves working to dismiss and discredit the abundantly evidenced idea that Russia's invasion of Ukraine was due largely to Moscow's fear of NATO expansion and the refusal of Washington and Kyiv to solidify a policy that Ukraine would not be added to the alliance.

However, if experts have been warning for many years that NATO expansion would provoke an attack, and the guy launching the attack is explicitly citing NATO expansion as a driving motive for his actions, it seems like maybe it's sorta kinda got something to do with NATO expansion.

@COVID19Up: Roughly 70% of Americans will be able to remove their masks indoors, including inside schools, under new guidance to be released by the CDC on Friday (Feb. 25).

Under the new metrics, more than half of U.S. counties—which make up 70% of where Americans live—will be in areas of low or medium risk and no longer recommended to wear masks.

The new guidance will consider three factors: new COVID-19 hospitalizations, current beds occupied by COVID-19 patients and hospital capacity, and new COVID-19 cases.

@G3News: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on his allies to share information about the alleged Russian invasion, prompting Russia to accuse the West of “mocking” the Ukrainians and common sense.

Zelensky’s remarks come as the crisis over Ukraine is deepening, with NATO forces building up their presence in Eastern Europe. They explain their actions as an attempt to prevent Russia from attacking, despite Moscow’s numerous denials of such intentions. On Friday, a number of Western news outlets, quoting unnamed US officials, published stories about a potential Russian attack on Ukraine on February 16.

Speaking at a press briefing on Saturday, Ukranian president Zelensky said that the Ukrainian side understood “that the risks existed,” but emphasized that there was “too much information” in the media about “a deep full-scale war from the Russian Federation.”

“If you or any other people have any additional information about the 100% Russian invasion in Ukraine starting on the 16th [of February], please give us this information." Zelensky said. “We are not afraid of anyone, no panic, everything is under control,” he added, emphasizing that diplomacy is the only way for de-escalation.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, speaking to the public,
Emphasized that the US has been “declaring daily for two months” that Russia was about to attack Ukraine. Zakharova made a point that the Ukrainian president and representatives of the power bloc have been saying all this time that they did not have such information, while “now they are also asking those who care to share the data.”

Zakharova added that apparently no one has such evidence besides some media outlets and unnamed American sources.

In a phone call Saturday with Blinken, Russia's top diplomat Sergei Lavrov accused the United States and its allies of waging a "propaganda campaign" about Russian aggression towards Ukraine, the Russian foreign ministry said.

@G3News: Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin spoke by phone for an hour on Saturday after Washington and its allies warned that Russian forces could invade Ukraine at any moment.

The U.S. State Department ordered most of its embassy staff to leave Ukraine, adding to its call on Friday for private citizens to get out of the country within 48 hours. The Pentagon said it was withdrawing about 150 military trainers.

Earlier on Saturday, French President Emmanuel Macron told Putin that sincere negotiations were incompatible with an escalation in tensions over Ukraine, France said. Biden and Macron are due to speak after their separate calls with Putin.

Bulgaria, Portugal, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and other countries have also urged their citizens to leave Ukraine.

Moscow has repeatedly disputed Washington's version of events, saying it has massed more than 100,000 troops near the Ukrainian border to maintain its own security against aggression by NATO allies.

Russia, which has accused Western nations of spreading lies to distract from their own acts, meanwhile said on Saturday that it had decided to 'optimise' its diplomatic staff numbers in Ukraine, fearing 'provocations' by Kyiv or others.

@G3News: A Russian naval vessel chased away a U.S. submarine in Russian waters in the Pacific after the submarine ignored the ship's orders for it to surface, Interfax news agency cited the defence ministry as saying on Saturday.

Russia accused Washington of breaking international law and creating a national security threat over the incident, which came at a time of high tensions between Moscow and Washington over a Russian military buildup near Ukraine.
