The International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the Hague will hold public hearings next week over claims of genocide in Ukraine.

In a statement Tuesday (March 1), the ICJ said public hearings will be held next Monday (March 7 and Tuesday (March 8) regarding “the case concerning Allegations of Genocide under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (Ukraine v. Russian Federation).”

In its application to institute proceedings against Russia, Ukraine said Russia has “falsely claimed that acts of genocide have occurred” in the separatist regions of Luhansk and Donetsk, adding Russia then subsequently declared and implemented a “special military operation” against Ukraine, according to an earlier ICJ news release.

Ukraine denied these claims in its application and accused Russia of “planning acts of genocide" in the country, according to the news release.

The hearings will be held at the Peace Palace in The Hague, the seat of the Court, and will be devoted to Ukraine’s request for the indication of provisional measures, the statement said.

Several Syrian fighters in northern Syria and Turkey told Middle East Eye they were trying to travel and take up arms against Russia.

The opportunity to take revenge on Russia elsewhere has been too good to miss for some rebels. Particularly, some say, as foreign-brokered ceasefire agreements have restricted them from launching attacks on Russian forces in Syria.

A photo taken of Canadian Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland at a Ukraine rally over the weekend caught her holding a red and black scarf representative of the Bandera movement, a far-right Ukrainian nationalist group linked to neo-Nazism.

Freeland, a Ukrainian-Canadian who sits on the World Economic Forum's board of trustees, posted the photo with the scarf to social media but then deleted it. She reposted the same message with a different photo that did not include the red and black scarf.

Freeland, a long-time enemy of Putin's, was in Kiev with her sister at their apartment during the February 2014 coup.

The Ottawa Citizen has reported that Freeland’s grandfather was the editor of a Nazi newspaper during WWII.

Hours later, I deleted the Tweet after I received such an overwhelming number of messages and comments, from people who don’t know anything about me… yet felt the need to go out of their way to spread hatred to the extent that they threatened my life and my safety…

If you’re one of the people pushing to ban RT and threatening myself and my colleagues—I hope you know that you’re not achieving what you think you are.

Those who fight to limit the public’s access to information have never been on the right side of history. It won’t end with RT.

Update: Deputies give all-clear after "active shooter" scare triggers lockdown at nuclear site in Washington state.

Police from throughout the Tri-Cities are heading to the Hanford nuclear reservation in Eastern Washington after the report of possible shots fired at the site. Initial reports were that a person with a shotgun was seen and shots were heard.

Mexico will not impose economic sanctions on Russia, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said in a daily news conference on Tuesday (March 1) morning.

“We’re not going to take any kind of economic reprisal because we want to have good relations with all the governments in the world, and we want to be able to talk with the parties in conflict,” López Obrador said after he was asked about his stance on the matter.

“We do not consider that it corresponds to us, and we think that the best thing is to promote dialogue to achieve peace,” he said.

López Obrador also criticized the “censorship” of Russian state media, after social media companies announced they would take action to limit the reach of Russian-backed news channel RT.

"I don't agree that there is censorship in the media; I spoke out against it when President Trump's account was canceled, as I also do not agree with the fact that the media, from Russia or any other country, are censored," he said.

NATO foreign ministers will hold emergency talks in Brussels on Friday (March 4) over Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the alliance said in a statement.

NATO allies have rushed to bolster their eastern flank after Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the attack, but remain adamant that they will not get involved militarily in the war in non-NATO member Ukraine.

NATO has for the first time activated its rapid response force to add to thousands of troops already sent by allies to eastern members.

The alliance has faced calls to help impose a no-fly zone over Ukraine as Russia has launched air strikes against civilian targets.

NATO has rejected that idea, arguing it could drag the alliance what could turn into a nuclear conflict with with Moscow.
