2022-02-11 04:40:52 Biden Pledges Support to Saudi King as Yemen Death Toll Soars; "Unchecked, Horrific Violations" Since UN Monitors Left

@G3News
: U.S. President Biden spoke with Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on Wednesday (Feb. 9) and reaffirmed his “commitment to support” Saudi Arabia against attacks from Yemen’s Houthis.

“The President underscored the U.S. commitment to support Saudi Arabia in the defense of its people and territory from these attacks,” the White House said in a readout of the call.

The call came after a significant escalation in the Saudi-led coalition’s air war in Yemen, with January being the most deadly month for civilians in the country since 2016.

The removal of U.N. human rights monitors from Yemen went about as badly as most predicted, with the Norwegian Refugee Council confirming Thursday (Feb. 10) that the first four months have seen “unchecked, horrific violations,” and urging the monitors be reinstated.

The monitors were meant to lead to accountability in violence against civilians. The U.N. Human Rights Council voted 21-18 to eliminate this program in October, with the Saudis heavily lobbying against the monitors, and accusing them of “spreading misinformation.”

2022-02-11 03:35:15 Oklahoma Joins Nebraska in Allowing Doctors to Prescribe Ivermectin and Hydroxychloroquine to Treat COVID-19

@COVID19Up
: Oklahoma Attorney General John O’Connor announced on Tuesday (Feb. 8) that his office found "no legal basis for a state medical licensure board to discipline a licensed physician" for using their judgment and prescribing FDA-approved drugs for the off-label purpose of treating COVID-19.

"I stand behind doctors who believe it is in their patients' best interests to receive ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine," Mr. O'Connor said in a statement.

"Our healthcare professionals should have every tool available to combat COVID-19. Public safety demands this. Physicians who prescribe medications and follow the law should not fear disciplinary action for prescribing such drugs."

In October 2021, Nebraska Attorney General Doug Peterson's office released a legal opinion saying it didn’t see data to justify legal action against health care professionals who prescribe ivermectin or hydroxychloroquine to prevent or treat COVID-19.

“Based on the evidence that currently exists, the mere fact of prescribing ivermectin or hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19 will not result in our office filing disciplinary actions,” Peterson said.

2022-02-11 01:02:04 Yemen: January Saw Highest Civilian Casualties in Saudi Air War Since 2016

@G3News
: A monthly summary from the Yemen Data Project of the Saudi-led coalition’s air war in Yemen found January 2022 was the most violent month for civilians since 2016.

According to the data, 139 civilians were killed by Saudi air raids, and another 287 were wounded. It was the highest number of civilian casualties recorded in a single month since October 2016.

The deadliest air raid of the month hit a migrant detention facility in Sadaa on January 21, which killed at least 91 civilians and wounded at least 237. The prison bombing was preceded by Saudi airstrikes on telecommunication infrastructure that also killed civilians and caused nationwide internet outages.

Never forgive, never forget!

But why would Kristian Andersen lie about this issue publicly?

The answer might be disturbing: https://bit.ly/3sA6g4O

I am also wondering why his pseudoscientific paper hasn't been retracted yet...

2022-02-10 22:11:10 Global Freedoms Have Hit a “Dismal” Record Low, With Pandemic Restrictions Making Things Much Worse

@COVID19Up
: The state of democracy around the world fell to a record low last year, according to a new report released Thursday (Feb. 10) that placed blame in large part on pandemic restrictions that have seen many nations struggle to balance a public health emergency with personal freedoms.

Less than half the world’s population live under some form of democracy, according to the London-based Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), which conducted its annual Democracy Index survey that rated 167 countries based on measures including electoral processes and civil liberties.

The world’s overall score fell to 5.28 out of 10, setting “another dismal record” with the lowest rating since the EIU started producing the index in 2006. It was also the biggest annual decline since 2010. The survey found that 6.4% of the world lived in a “full democracy” last year, while more than a third lived under authoritarian rule—with a large share of those in China.

From lockdowns to travel bans, COVID-19 led to “an unprecedented withdrawal of civil liberties among developed democracies and authoritarian regimes alike,” the report said.

“It has led to the normalization of emergency powers, which have tended to stay on the statute books, and accustomed citizens to a huge extension of state power over large areas of public and personal life.”

2022-02-10 20:14:53 U.S. Inflation Jumped 7.5% in the Past Year, a 40-Year High and More Than Expected

@G3News
: Inflation soared over the past year at its highest rate in four decades, hammering America’s consumers, wiping out pay raises and reinforcing the Federal Reserve’s decision to begin raising borrowing rates across the economy.

The Labor Department said Thursday (Feb. 10) that consumer prices jumped 7.5% last month compared with a year earlier, the steepest year-over-year increase since February 1982. The acceleration of prices ranged across the economy, from food and furniture to apartment rents, airline fares and electricity.

2022-02-10 19:03:20 Another Canadian Liberal MP Breaks Ranks With Party, Criticizes Trudeau's "Divisive" Handling of COVID-19 Pandemic

@COVID19Up
: A three-term Quebec Liberal MP is raising serious questions about Justin Trudeau’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, saying he agrees with fellow Quebec Liberal MP Joel Lightbound who yesterday said the federal government’s response has become “politicized” and “divisive.”

“He said exactly what a lot of us think,”
said Liberal MP Yves Robillard in an interview. “I agree with everything that Lightbound said.”

Robillard said that he had a conversation with Lightbound on Wednesday (Feb. 9) morning and expressed his support to him. He added that going forward, they will work on this issue together.

2022-02-10 06:59:06 U.S. Appeals Court Declines to Block Ruling That Biden Can't Mandate COVID-19 Vaccination for Federal Employees

@COVID19Up
: By a 2-1 vote, the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday (Feb. 9) declined to block a lower court ruling that President Joe Biden can't require federal employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

Last month, U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Brown also blocked the federal government from enforcing President Biden’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate for federal workers.

In mid-January, the U.S. Supreme Court blocked Biden's COVID-19 vaccine mandate for 80 million American workers.

In December, a third major COVID-19 vaccine requirement aimed at employees of federal contractors like airlines and manufacturers was also blocked by a federal judge.

2022-02-10 06:12:20 Blockade of Ambassador Bridge by COVID-19 Mandate Protesters Forces Shut Down of Ford Engine Plant in Windsor, Canada

@COVID19Up
: A blockade of the Ambassador Bridge that connects Windsor and Detroit by protesters demanding an end to Canada’s COVID-19 vaccine mandates forced the shutdown Wednesday (Feb. 9) of a Ford plant.

The protest by people mostly in pickup trucks entered its third day. Traffic was prevented from entering Canada, while U.S.-bound traffic was still moving. The bridge carries 25% of all trade between the two countries.

Ford said late Wednesday that parts shortages forced it to shut down an engine plant in Windsor.

“This interruption on the Detroit-Windsor bridge hurts customers, auto workers, suppliers, communities and companies on both sides of the border,” Ford said in a statement. “We hope this situation is resolved quickly because it could have widespread impact on all automakers in the U.S. and Canada.”
