2022-02-09 09:50:32 Israel Attacks Syrian Air Defenses, One Soldier Killed

@G3News: After an errant Syrian anti-aircraft missile exploded over the occupied West Bank, Israel carried out a substantial attack against Syrian air defenses, destroying a number of batteries, and causing substantial damage.

Syria explained the initial fire as targeting “hostile targets.” It exploded near Umm al-Fahm, and triggered sirens in the West Bank. Israel used this as a pretext for their attack.

Syria reported some incoming Israeli missiles were intercepted, but a lot of damage was also done. In addition, at least one soldier was confirmed killed, and five others wounded.

@G3News: Prince Andrew is reportedly seeking sworn testimony from a Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell victim who has claimed his accuser Virginia Roberts recruited her at 14 and trained her to give sexual massages.

The major gamble is part of the Duke of York's "unclean hands" defense strategy, which will see his lawyers attempt to argue that Roberts doesn't deserve damages because she was complicit in a "criminal enterprise."

However, the move could backfire against the royal prince, as his witness, Carolyn Andriano, recently corroborated claims that Roberts had sex with Prince Andrew at Maxwell's London home when she was only 17—meaning she could say so again under oath.

Andrew's team is also looking for other women who may have been recruited by Roberts while under age.

Roberts is suing Andrew in New York over claims she was trafficked by billionaire pedophile Epstein and forced to have sex with the prince on three occasions when she was 17. Andrew denies the claims.

@COVID19Up: Liberal Quebec MP Joël Lightbound on Tuesday (Feb. 8) said it's time to rethink Canada's COVID-19 approach, calling the federal government's pandemic response "politicized" and "divisive."

Lightbound said Canadians who question existing policies should not be "demonized" by their prime minister.

"I can't help but notice with regret that both the tone and the policies of my government have changed drastically since the last election campaign. It went from a more positive approach to one that stigmatizes and divides people," Lightbound said.

"It's becoming harder and harder to know when public health stops and where politics begins," he said. "It's time to stop dividing Canadians and pitting one part of the population against another."

@COVID19Up: Ottawa's city manager says all tow-truck companies on contract with the city have refused to haul away the big rigs that have gridlocked Ottawa's downtown for the second week in a row.

The consensus seems to be that many of the companies don't want to do the work because the heavy truck industry is such a large part of their livelihoods and they fear harming that part of their businesses. The city is reviewing the contracts to see what recourse it has in this unprecedented situation.

In the meantime, Ottawa's mayor has reached out to other large Ontario cities to see if they can help, and the city is calling companies across Eastern Ontario.

@G3News: Following up on the U.S. sending warplanes and a destroyer to the United Arab Emirates to defend against future attacks, the French Defense Ministry has announced they will send Rafale jets there for the same reason.

French Defense Minister Florence Parly warned the UAE had faced “serious attacks” in January, and that the fighters would ensure that France would protect their airspace from any intrusion.

Yemen’s Houthis fired missiles and drones at UAE territory because of increased airstrikes against northern Yemen. An obscure Iraqi group also took credit for last week’s drone attack.

@G3News: President Biden met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Washington on Monday (Feb. 7) as the two leaders tried to show a united front amid heightened tensions with Russia over Ukraine.

Germany has not been as eager to stoke conflict between Ukraine and Russia as some of its NATO allies, refusing to send weapons to Kyiv.

At a joint press conference, President Biden said if Russia invades Ukraine, “there will be no longer a Nord Stream 2. We will bring an end to it.” But when Scholz was asked if Germany would “pull the plug” on the pipeline in the event of a Russian invasion, he stressed unity with allies but wouldn’t make the commitment.

“As I’ve already said, we are acting together, we are absolutely united, and we will not be taking different steps. We will do the same steps, and they will be very, very hard to Russia, and they should understand,” Scholz said.

The provincial government confirmed that all current public health orders—including a mask requirement for entry to public indoor spaces and mandatory self-isolation rules for those who test positive—will expire at the end of February.

"We want things to be as normal as they can," Moe said at a COVID-19 update on Tuesday (Feb. 8).

@G3News: A Russia-backed separatist leader in eastern Ukraine said on Monday (Feb. 7) that full-scale war could break out there at any time and he might be forced to turn to Moscow for support.

Denis Pushilin, head of the Donetsk People's Republic, said there was a high likelihood of a war that would bring huge casualties, although it would be "madness" to embrace such a conflict.

"First of all we rely on ourselves, but we do not rule out that we will be forced to turn to Russia if Ukraine, with the support of Western countries, passes a certain line," he told Reuters in an interview.
