2022-02-07 21:24:59 Johnson & Johnson Tried to Block Reuters From Publishing Article About Its Secret Plan to Limit Baby Powder Lawsuit Payouts

@G3News: Johnson & Johnson (J&J) has been accused of trying to suppress speech by asking a judge to block Reuters from publishing an article about the pharmaceutical giant’s legal strategy to counter lawsuits claiming that its Baby Powder is a cause of cancer.

“The First Amendment is not a license to knowingly violate the law,” J&J said in a court filing in New Jersey this week.

The filing was made at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court where the Big Pharma giant is trying to get protections from “bankruptcy” from 38,000 lawsuits alleging the company’s baby powder product was advertised as safe but had long-term cancer risks.

This week, Reuters reported that J&J had a secret plan to shift the liability from the lawsuits to a new subsidiary which would then declare bankruptcy to limit having to pay up over the cancer lawsuits.

J&J attempted to stop Reuters from publishing the story by requesting the judge intervene and issue a restraining order.

2022-02-07 18:34:59 Israel Drops Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination for Most Venues and Eases Restrictions

@COVID19Up: Israel's coronavirus cabinet on Friday (Feb. 4) dropped the requirement to present a proof of COVID-19 vaccination at most indoor places, effectively removing barriers to entry for unvaccinated people at hotels, restaurants, gyms and movie theaters as infections continue to fall.

"High-risk events" such as weddings and parties will still require a certificate. The decision will officially come into effect on Monday (Feb. 7).

The cabinet also voted to extend the mask mandate in schools and the obligation to present a negative test every 48 hours for unvaccinated school staffers until March 1.

While infections are steadily declining, serious COVID-19 cases and the number of dead are persisting at record levels in the face of the downward trend, according to Health Ministry data.

@G3News: Ukraine downplayed a possible incursion by Russia on Sunday (Feb. 6), urging people to not believe “apocalyptic predictions” after U.S. officials warned between 25,000 to 50,000 civilian casualties were possible, with as many as 25,000 Ukrainian soldiers killed.

“Do not believe the apocalyptic predictions. Different capitals have different scenarios, but Ukraine is ready for any development,” Ukraine Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba tweeted in Ukrainian only on Sunday, suggesting the message was intended for a domestic audience.

“Today, Ukraine has a strong army, unprecedented international support, and Ukrainians’ faith in their country. The enemy should be afraid of us, not us of them.”

The chances of finding a diplomatic solution to the crisis remained “substantially higher than the threat of further escalation," added Ukraine’s presidency adviser Mykhailo Podolyak.

President Volodymyr Zelensky's government has in recent weeks played down the Russian threat.

@COVID19Up: Ottawa police arrested "several people" on mischief charges Sunday night (Feb. 6) for bringing material goods like gas to the Canadian Truckers Freedom Convoy, as police begin to crack down on protesters hours after a state of emergency was declared.

Hours earlier police announced that, "Anyone attempting to bring material supports to the demonstrators could be subject to arrest. Enforcement is underway."

The mischief charge is known as "Aiding and Abetting of Mischief" per the Criminal Code of Canada.

Police also said over 450 tickets had been issued in the protest zone around Parliament Hill following a "disruptive" weekend.

Tickets were issued for the following infractions:

● Excessive noise
● Use of Fireworks
● Failure to drive in marked lane
● Red light violations
● Driving through a No Truck Route
● Seatbelt violation
● Driving a motor vehicle on a sidewalk
● Cellphone
● Disobey sign
● Improper muffler
● Tint (too dark)
● Obstructed license plate
● Failure to produce documents
● Stunt Driving (vehicle seized)
● Suspended license
● No Insurance

@COVID19Up: Over 10,000 protesters demanding an end to COVID-19 mandates and the resignation of parliament are now calling for five million supporters to converge on Australia's capital city of Canberra in the coming weeks to make it happen.

Federal Parliament returns on Tuesday (Feb. 8) for its first sitting week of 2022.

The movement is incredibly broad—from Indigenous rights activists to evangelical Christians—and has two main demands: an end to COVID-19 vaccine mandates; and the resignation of Australia's political leaders.

United Australia Party leader Craig Kelly and Liberal National MP George Christensen were both present at the rally ahead of coming parliamentary sitting fortnight.

Christensen and Liberal senator Gerard Rennick, who threatened to block his own government's legislation over COVID-19 vaccine mandates, were named as politicians likely to address the crowd over the next few days.

"Masking is a divisive issue, however, at the end of the day, it is a scientific question. Pre-pandemic, community masking was discouraged because the existing evidence was negative. This is why Fauci was critical of it in March 2020 on 60 minutes. In the pandemic, masking has become a marker of politics. Good liberals wear them, and bad conservatives don’t.

@G3News: White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said Sunday (Feb. 6) that Russia could invade Ukraine “any day,” launching a conflict that would come at an “enormous human cost.”

“If war breaks out, it will come at an enormous human cost to Ukraine, but we believe that based on our preparations and our response, it will come at a strategic cost to Russia as well,” Sullivan said.

Sullivan did not directly address reports that the White House has briefed lawmakers that a full Russian invasion could lead to the quick capture of Kyiv and potentially result in as many as 50,000 casualties as he made appearances on a trio of Sunday talk shows.
