2021-05-16 18:06:14 Walīd b. Muslim reported: We use to sit with al-Awzāʿī (Allah’s mercy be upon him) and if he recognized a youngster from amongst us he would say to him: “O young boy, have you memorized the Qurʾān?”
قَرَأْتُ عَلَى الْحَسَنِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ الدَّقِيقِيِّ، نا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ بَكْرٍ الْوَرَّاقُ، نا الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ، نا الْوَلِيدُ، يَعْنِي ابْنَ مُسْلِمٍ، قَالَ: " كُنَّا إِذَا جَالَسْنَا الْأَوْزَاعِيَّ فَرَأَى فِينَا حَدَثًا، قَالَ: " يَا غُلَامُ، قَرَأْتَ الْقُرْآنَ؟

If the boy answered “Yes”, he would say “Read from Allah's Statement: {Allah gives you testimony concerning your children} [4:11]
فَإِنْ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: اقْرَأْ: {يُوصِيكُمُ اللَّهُ فِي أَوْلَادِكُمْ} [النساء: 11]

And if the boy said: “No” he (ie: al-Awzāʿī) would say: “Go and learn the Qurʾān before seeking knowledge.”
وَإِنْ قَالَ: لَا، قَالَ: اذْهَبْ، تَعَلَّمِ الْقُرْآنَ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَطْلُبَ الْعِلْمَ "

2021-05-16 02:30:13 Abū Ḏarr (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger ﷺ said to me: “O Abū Ḏarr, do you think that a lot of wealth is richness?”
وعن أبي ذرّ رضي الله عنه قال: قال لي رسول الله - صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ -: "يا أبا ذر! أترى كثرةَ المال هو الغنى؟ ".

I answered: “Yes O Messenger of Allah.”
قلت: نعم يا رسولَ الله!

So he asked: “Do you think that a lack of wealth is poverty?”
قال: "أَفَتَرى قلةَ المالِ هو الفقر؟ ".

I answered: “Yes O Messenger of Allah.”
قلت: نعم يا رسول الله!

So he said: “But true richness is the richness of the heart, and true poverty is the poverty of the heart.”
قال: "إنما الغنى غنى القلب، والفقرُ فقرُ القلب".

Reported by Ibn Ḥibbān in his Ṣaḥīḥ.
رواه ابن حبان في "صحيحه" في حديث يأتي إنْ شاء الله تعالى.

كما قال الشاعر:

“I (ie: Majnūn) walk past the houses, the house of Laylá;
" أمر على الديار ديار ليلى

I kiss this wall and that wall; it is not the love of the houses that has filled my heart, but the love of the one who dwells in these houses.”
فأقبل ذا الجدار وذا الجدار ما حب الديار شغفن قلبي ولكن حب من سكن الديار "

2021-05-15 18:40:43 Abū Ḥātim (ie: Ibn Ḥibbān), may Allah be pleased with him said: This report is a proof that the closest people to the Prophet ﷺ on the Day of Judgement will be the Aṣḥāb al-Ḥadīth, since there is no one in this ummah who supplicates for peace and blessings upon him than them (ie: every time they narrate a ḥadīth they mention: ﷺ).

قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ: فِي هَذَا الْخَبَرِ دَلِيلٌ عَلَى أَنَّ أَوْلَى النَّاسِ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْقِيَامَةِ يَكُونُ أَصْحَابُ الْحَدِيثِ، إِذْ لَيْسَ مِنْ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ قَوْمٌ أَكْثَرَ صَلَاةٍ عَلَيْهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْهُمْ.

2021-05-14 20:48:33 Beware of ending up with the ḥizbiyīn and then possessing their books and treading their narrow path and walking upon their crooked methodology.
وإيَّاك أن تنزلق مع الحزبيين، فتأخذ كتبهم وتسلك طريقهم الضيق، وتمشي على نهجهم المعوج

Take caution my Muslim brother from possessing their books because the truth in them is mixed with falsehood,
أحذر يا أخي المسلم أن تأخذ كتب هؤلاء، فإنَّ حقَّها مخلوطٌ بالباطل،

And the Sunnah in them is mixed with al-bidaʿh!
وسنَّتها مشوبةٌ بالبدعة،

So if you desire a pure drinking source with no impurities then you must seek the Qurʾān and the books of the Sunnah and the books of āthār.
فإذا أردت المشرب الصافي الذي لا كدر فيه، فعليك بكتاب الله، وبكتب السنَّة وبكتب الآثار،

Tread the path of the people of āthār who take their knowledge by reported chains from the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, the Prophets, may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon them.
واسلك طريقة أهل الأثر ؛ الذين يأخذون العلم بالسند عن أصحاب رسول الله - صلى الله عليه وسلم - عن نبيهم صلوات الله وسلامه عليه

2021-05-14 17:33:12 The ʿaṣl (ie: foundation) of our maḏhab (ie: school of thought) of taking the Qurʾān and authentic aḥadīth upon its dhāhir (ie: apparent meaning) is the truth,
وأصل مذهبنا أن الأخذ بظاهر القرآن والحديث الصحيح حق

We are certain to be correct in this,
ونحن على يقين من أننا مصيبون في ذلك

In every assertion that we encounter, we take the literal reading of the Qurʾān and ṣaḥīḥ aḥadīth,
وفي كل قول أدانا إليه أخذنا بظاهر القرآن والحديث الصحيح

And whoever opposes is wrong.
وأن من خالفنا مخطىء

2021-05-13 17:44:22 Imām al-Bukhārī may Allah have mercy on him reported in Kitāb al-ʿIlm in his Ṣaḥīḥ from Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet ﷺ who said: “There is a tree whose leaves do not fall, and it is the similitude of the Muslim - speak to me of what it is.”
وقد عقد الإمام البخاريّ - رَحِمَهُ اللهُ - في "كتاب العلم" من "صحيحه": "باب طرح الإمام المسألة على أصحابه؛ ليختبر ما عندهم من العلم"، ثم أورد محتجًّا على ذلك حديث ابن عمر - رضي الله عنهما -، عن النبيّ - صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قال: "إن من الشجر شجرةً، لا يسقط ورقها، وإنها مَثَل المسلم، حدّثوني ما هي؟ ".

So the people felt that it was the trees of the desert areas, whereas I (ie: Ibn ʿUmar) felt it was the date-palm-tree.
قال: فوقع الناس في شجر البوادي، قال عبد الله: فوقع في نفسي أنَّها النخلة،

They then said: “Narrate to us what it is, O Messenger of Allah.”
ثم قالوا: حَدَّثَنَا ما هي يا رسول الله؟

He said: “It is the date-palm-tree.”
قال: "هي النخلة". انتهى.
