The Job Vacancies 2022 Report was released today. Key findings include:

The proportion of hard-to-fill vacancies has decreased as border restrictions were lifted
PMETs made up a growing majority of job vacancies, reflecting manpower demand for skilled workers from growth sectors
For 74% of vacancies in 2022, academic qualifications were not the main determinant in hiring

We will continue to support employers in job redesign and in adopting a skills-based approach to hiring.

Have you seen the Progressive Wage (PW) Mark?

By purchasing from PW Mark-accredited companies, you are supporting employers who pay progressive wages to eligible workers, and at least the Local Qualifying Salary to all other local workers. These employers also provide clear career pathways, opportunities for upskilling and improved productivity.

Our labour market has improved significantly in 2022. Key observations include:

Total employment surpassed its pre-pandemic levels as both resident and non-resident employment increased
Unemployment rates and the number of retrenchments for 2022 are below pre-pandemic levels

We will continue to support companies to be resilient and ready to seize the opportunities ahead.

New Household Services Scheme Pilot to Better Support Families

Expanded pilot to include basic child- and elder-minding services.
25 pilot companies allowed to hire more migrant workers for these services
Give households, including families who need such domestic support for a few hours or days a week, more choices for respite care
Companies to put in place safety measures before deploying workers
Households should assess if the worker is suitable for your needs. For example, ask for the worker’s experience, qualification and training. A member of the household should supervise, especially when using the worker’s services for the first time.

195,000 full-time and part-time workers will be covered by the Occupational Progressive Wages (OPW) for Administrators and Drivers from 1 March 2023!

Along with the Waste Management Progressive Wage Model in July, the suite of Progressive Wage moves will cover up to 94% of lower-wage workers.

We will press on with our efforts to leave no worker behind as Singapore progresses!

In line with the shift to DORSCON Green from 13 Feb 2023, we have updated the work and leave arrangements for employees who test positive for COVID-19 or have Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) symptoms.

Employees who are physically well but have self-tested for COVID-19 may be allowed to work from home. If this is not possible, employers are strongly encouraged to treat the period of absence as paid sick leave without requiring a Medical Certificate (MC).

As part of their talent attraction and retention strategies, employers may grant employees with mild ARI symptoms paid sick leave without requiring MC.

As each company has different business needs, employers and employees should discuss and mutually agree on the work and leave arrangements for the period of absence.
