Twitter on Monday (April 25) confirmed the sale of the company to Tesla and SpaceX boss Elon Musk for $44 billion. The sale will now give control of one of the most popular social media platforms to the world's richest person. Twitter is used by millions of people.

In a joint release announcing the takeover, Musk said: "Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated." Reports related to the bid were circulated and the discussions over the deal dominated the media reports globally.The talks were reportedly accelerated over the weekend after Musk wooed Twitter shareholders with financing details of his offer.

The Taliban on Thursday (April 21) ordered a ban against TikTok and PUBG. TikTok is the widely popular video-sharing app while PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) is a game. The Taliban insist that the these apps were leading Afghanistan's youth astray.

The apps "made the young generation go astray", the cabinet said in a statement, adding the telecommunications ministry had been ordered to shut them downThe apps are popular among Afghans who are now left with just a few options for entertainment ever since Taliban came to power in Afghanistan last year.

Twitter wants to keep the good vibes rolling in! Apparently, Twitter is working on a "vibe" feature. In essence, it'll allow users to set a status and is codenamed "Vibe."If you've used Instagram Threads app, it used to display similar status updates like the one shared by Wong, who also noted a similarity.

Spotted first by researcher Jane Manchun Wong, the potential feature would allow users to set a status akin to other social media platforms like Facebook. However, it'll not appear like a Tweet on the feed but will instead be pinned right beneath a user's name.According to Wong's Tweets, the feature will appear as "set a status" in the Tweet composer box. Clicking on it will lead users to five pre-set vibes including "shopping grocery" and "driving highway.".

An Egyptian court has reduced TikTok influencer Haneen Hossam’s 10-year “human trafficking” sentence to three years, a judicial source has said.

Hossam was first arrested in 2020 and, along with another influencer named Mawada al-Adham, was sentenced to two years for “attacking society’s values” in online videos. She was detained after posting a video on Instagram explaining how women could earn up to $3,000 by broadcasting videos using the video creation platform Likee, which authorities interpreted as promoting women selling sex online.

Instagram announced that product tagging, which previously only creators and brands could use, is now available to all U.S. users with public accounts. Instagram first announced the update in March and said it would be available in the coming months.

To tag a product, after choosing a photo or video, and moving past the filtering and editing screen, tap “Tag people” on the “New Post” screen. Select “Add tag.” First, tag the brand, then select the “Products” option on the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. Then, you can search up the product, select the item with the right specifications and tap the photo to add the tag.Tapping on the tag opens up a page for the product, where users can purchase the item. They can also buy it in Instagram.

MainOne, a company responsible for laying a vast network of fibre-optic cables across west Africa, was an obvious partner. Another, perhaps less obvious one, was Facebook.

A joint agreement was signed to install fibre-optic cables running across the state’s capital, Benin City. Since 2019, 400km (250 miles) of cables have been laid in Edo, about a quarter via the partnership between the two companies and the government.“Obviously, Facebook isn’t really a digital infrastructure company, but they invested in these cables,” said Emmanuel Eweka, who worked as a senior government official for the Edo government until last September.
