As this article shares, there is no shortage of research studies attesting to the benefits of coffee. But now researchers behind a new study found that it might actually increase your lifespan.

Published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, the study the analyzed consumption habits of more than 170,000 coffee drinkers in the United Kingdom ages 37 to 73 and followed them for an average of seven years.

What they found was that those people who drank between 1.5 to 3.5 cups of coffee per day were 16% to 21% less likely to die from all-cause, cancer-related and cardiovascular disease-related mortality during the study period than non-coffee drinkers.

In 2018, a study tracked over 500,000 participants across 10 years and found that drinking 6 to 7 cups daily had a 16% lower risk of early death.

What’s the takeaway here? Drink coffee, especially quality, mold-free coffee… and be sure to switch to decaf by 2pm.

Here are five rules for smart sun exposure:

1. Get early morning sun: The sun gives off many infrared rays in the morning. These rays protect your skin from sun damage. Getting some early morning sun before your midday sun can reduce your chances of getting a sunburn.

2. Keep it short: 15-20 minutes is often enough time to spend in the midday sun to make vitamin D and reap the benefits. Staying out in the direct sunlight beyond this may cause skin damage.

3. Know your limits: Know your tolerance. If you’re getting red at 20 minutes, dial it back to 15.

4. Stay away from sunscreen: A study by the Environmental Working Group showed that most sunscreens contain hazardous chemicals, including hormone disruptors and possible carcinogens.

5. If you must, use mineral-based sunscreen: Mineral-based sunscreens reflect the sun’s rays away from your skin instead of chemical sunscreens that absorb rays. (Your best option is to stay in the shade and cover up).
