Podcast guest Amishi Jha, Ph.D , a neuroscientist and professor of psychology at the University of Miami, researches how people pay attention. She co-founded the Contemplative Neuroscience for the Mindfulness Research and Practice Initiative at the University of Miami and serves as its director. For more than 25 years, she’s researched the science of attention through intensive work with the U.S. Military, first responders, medical professionals, business leaders, and elite sports teams.

She’s found that attention Is both your superpower and your kryptonite.

Drop a if you love butter!

Here’s why saturated fat is good for you:

1. It gives you steady energy: Saturated fats fuel your brain and mitochondria and help give you steady energy and laser focus.

2. It’s crucial for nervous system health: Myelin is the material that lines your nerves, and it is made mainly of saturated fat. Without enough myelin, your neurons can’t properly transmit signals.

3. It’s highly stable: Saturated fats don’t have double bonds in their tails, making them much less prone to oxidation and damage.

Saturated fats have gotten a bad rap for no reason. Studies show that saturated fat intake has no impact on heart disease risk and may even be protective in some cases. Some of my favorites are grass-fed butter, beef, and coconut oil.

2022-05-25 07:47:43 In today's news, a crazy person did a bad thing.

Doesn't matter if we're talking Russia, Davos, or the US President. Or Canada. Or any one of thousands of tragedies around the world.

Or we could talk about the real news: That we know what to do to make things better, but we're not doing it.

YET.

2022-05-25 07:29:40 We have a trauma problem, not a gun problem.

When you isolate people, make them feel unsafe, and feed them crap so their brains don’t work, they go nuts.

They become tragically broken. They do bad things. It doesn’t matter what tool they use.

You could ban cars, knives, guns, bats, dogs, fire, and rocks, and damaged people would still harm others.

When a politician says they’re going to ban some thing in order to fix a problem, they’re putting a Band-Aid on a problem that they likely caused.

I’d like to see the next $40 billion go to mental health for children. That will solve more problems than anything else.

Do you think the chicken on the right has the same number of micronutrients and minerals per pound as the one on the left?

When you force a plant or an animal to grow absurdly quickly, there isn’t time for it to create nutrient density.

It may look like chicken, but it tastes like cardboard, and it doesn’t give your body the building materials you need for cellular performance.

I’m working on some new tech that may allow us to put nutrient density front and center because we will be able to measure it quickly.

Fake food and turbo chicken won’t stand a chance compared to pastured heritage breed grass-fed anything.

How you cook your food matters just as much as what you eat.

Cooking food at high temperatures encourages the formation of toxic byproducts that can cause inflammation, promote insulin resistance, and damage your cells. As a general rule of thumb, avoid frying, charring, caramelizing, broiling, or any cooking method that makes your food look like it was dropped into a fire.

Here are five best cooking techniques:

1. Baked at 320℉
2. Steamed al dente
3. Boiled
4. Poached
5. Lightly warmed

Here are five ways to handle food cravings:

1. Look at your last meal! The odds are high that some thing in it triggered your craving.

2. Stop and check in with your body. Investigate and ask: What is your body really asking for?

3. Take a look at what you’re doing when the craving arises. Are you bored? Stressed? Tired? Consider what external factors could be influencing a push toward a certain food.

3. Drink a big glass of water. Hydrate your body and see if the craving subsides.

4. Go for a walk around the block. Sometimes all you need to do is physically remove ourselves from temptation and create a physiological shift.

5. If you know you have a few go-to junk foods that you crave on a regular basis, remove these from your home and replace them with upgraded versions that still scratch the itch but don’t load your body with toxins.

Eating well isn’t just a function of discipline and willpower.
