2022-02-10 11:16:32 Ismāʿīl b. Ibrāhīm narrated to us: From Ayyūb: From Ibn Abī Mulaykah, who said: a man asked Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with him) about the Āyah: {A Day, the extent of which is a thousand years of those which you count} [32:5].

So Ibn ʿAbbās replied: “And what about [the Āyah]: {A Day, the extent of which is fifty thousand years} [70:4]?“

The man responded: ”I asked you so that you would inform me.“

Ibn ʿAbbās finally said: ”They are two days that Allah mentioned in His Book; Allah knows best about them."

So he (ie: Ibn ʿAbbās) hated to speak about the Book of Allah concerning that which he did not know.

2022-02-09 11:29:28 Hukm (ie: Ruling) on Rushing to Make al-Tabdīʿ wa ʿl-Tasfīq (ie: declaring someone to be an innovator or a sinner)

Questioner: “We want a clarification of the danger of rushing to declare al-tabdīʿ wa ʿl-tasfīq on someone who is known to have a sound ʿaqīdah (ie: creed) and the enmity and al-hajr (ie: boycotting) and al-khilāf (ie: conflict) that results from that?”

Answer: What is obligatory on every Muslim is to take precautions regarding his religion and himself and that he does not thrust himself into issues whose harm will come back to him,

In fact, it is sincere advice between the Muslims that is obligatory and especially between Ahl al-Sunnah wa ʿl-Jamāʿah,

Advising one another, being good to one another,

Co-operating amongst each other upon al-khayr (ie: good),

Warning each other from what they may fall into so that they can turn away from it — and after that the people are not divided into those who support this person against that one or that one against this one.

Rather a person strives to make the truth the missing thing he is looking for, and he (should be someone who) loves good for everyone, such that he loves that a person who has made a mistake returns (to the truth).

As for al-ikhitlāf (ie: the differing) which takes place and busying one's time with what happens between Ahl al-Sunnah wa ʿl-Jamāʿah in terms of the statements they make about each other and the students of knowledge pursuing that and becoming busy with it such that it becomes their one and only concern — then this does not befit a student of knowledge,

In fact, the student of knowledge must desire to become busy with knowledge and not busy himself with: “So-and-so said and so-and-so said”

It is not allowed for him to pursue the saying of so-and-so and so-and-so which he has become busy with because that results in rancour, enmity, boycotting, hatred and alienation.

So what is wājib (ie: obligatory) is mutual advice one to another, and what is wājib is that everyone is good to the other and that he loves good for himself, and thus co-operation upon al-birr wa ʿl-taqwá (ie: righteousness and piety) will occur.

2022-02-09 09:12:38 From Ibn Juraij, who said: Nāfiʿ informed me: That he heard Ibn ʿUmar say: “Salim, the freed slave of Abū Huḏayfah, used to lead the early Muhājirīn and Anṣār among the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ in prayer in Masjid Qubāʾ. Among them (ie: praying behind him) would be: Abū Bakr, ʿUmar, Abū Salamah, Zayd, and ʿĀmir b. Rabīʿah.”

2022-02-08 12:11:14 [The Statement of al-Ġazzālī]:

And another one of them (ie: al-Ġazzālī) said: “The people who are most overwhelmed with shakk (ie: doubt) when al-mawt (ie: death) approaches them are aṣḥāb al-kalām (ie: the people of theological rhetoric).”

2022-02-08 09:31:00 Muʿāḏah b. ʿAbd Allah Umm al-Ṣahbāʾ al-ʿAdawīyyah

al-Sayyidah, al-ʿālimah (ie: female scholar), Umm al-Ṣahbāʾ al-ʿAdawīyyah, al-Baṣrīyyah, al-ʿābidah (ie: devout worshipper), the wife of Ṣilah b. Ashyam.

She related narrations from ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib, ʿĀʿishah, and Hishām b. ʿĀmir.

Those who reported from her (ie: her students were): Abū Qilābah al-Jarmī, Yazīd al-Rishk, ʿĀṣim al-Aḥwal, ʿUmar b. Ḏarr, Isḥāq b. Suwayd, Ayyūb al-Sakhtiyānī, and others.

Her narrations are found in al-Siḥāḥ (ie: al-Bukhārī and Muslim).

Yaḥyá b. Maʿīn said she was thiqqah (ie: reliable).

It has reached us that she would spend her nights in ʿibādah (ie: worship), and she once said, “I am astonished at eyes that find sleep knowing the deep slumber (that awaits them) in a dark grave.”

When her husband Ṣilah and son were martyred in a war, many women gathered to console and give their condolences.

She said to them: “If you are here to congratulate us (for the good deeds we are to receive due to our patience - then you are welcome), but if you are here for any other reason, then return.”

She once said: “By Allah, I do not wish to remain (alive) except to draw nearer to Allah through the various means (of worship), perhaps He may gather me with my husband and son in al-Jannah.”

2022-02-07 11:23:38 It is unanimously agreed upon that children (i.e. who have passed away) from amongst the Muslims are in al-Jannah (ie: Paradise).

As for the children of al-mushrikīn (ie: the polytheists), the most correct answer is that which is established in al-Ṣaḥīḥayn (ie: al-Bukhārī and Muslim) when the Messenger ﷺ was asked (regarding them) and he replied: “Allahu aʿlam (ie: Allah knows best) what (sort of deeds) they would have done (ie: whether they would have become righteous or not).”

So we cannot judge a particular one of them to be in Jannah or Nār (ie: in the Hellfire).

2022-02-07 11:10:28 ʿAbd Allah Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal (may Allah be pleased with him) said:

“ʾUṣūl al-Sunnah (ie: the foundations of the Sunnah) with us are: Holding fast to what the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ were upon,

And taking them (ie: the Ṣaḥābah) as an example to be followed.

And abandoning al-bidaʿ (ie: innovations),

And (knowing) that every bidaʿ is ḍalālah (ie: misguidance).”

2022-02-07 07:49:44 Isḥāq narrated to us: Jarīr informed us: From Manṣūr: From Abū Wāʿil: From ʿAbd Allah [b. Masʿūd], who said: The Ṣirāṭ is occupied by shayāṭīn who call out: “O slave of Allah, come; O slave of Allah, come to this path”, in order to obstruct and hinder from Sabīl (ie: the Path of) Allah.

So hold on to Ḥabl (ie: the Rope of) Allah. And the Rope of Allah is the Book of Allah."

2022-02-06 10:27:12 ʿUqbah b. al-Ḥārith (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I prayed al-ʿAṣr in al-Madīnah behind the Prophet ﷺ.

So he gave the Salām, then stood in a hurry, stepping over the people to one of the houses of his wives.

So the people became fearful because of how quickly he left.

So he came out to them, and found that they were surprised by how quickly he left,

Then he said: “I remembered a piece of gold with us, so I hated that it divert my attention, so I ordered that it be distributed.”
