Ingress Updates [ENG]

2023-06-13 19:49:51 Niantic has released a new update, Version 2.118.1! No new features seem to be included, but various bug fixes and improvements have been added, such as an updated Adventure Sync settings menu and a fix for showing Agents Portals that they have already captured via the Adventure Sync: Nearby feature.

The last bug fix mentioned concerns the speed bonus for Overclock which was, until now, always 100% if all glyphs were entered correctly. This now follows the same logic as normal glyph hacks meaning that the faster an Agent completes Overclock the more items they will receive.

It is unclear whether this bug fix will negatively impact the output of items though the wording does not state it was a visual bug, so it's possible that this is a nerf to the item output of overclocked portals. Niantic has yet to comment on adjusting the time of overclocked portals, leaving the feature currently just as a risky way to save time on four hacks.

2023-06-13 16:09:35 The third and last round of the Echo Anomaly starts this Saturday! Once the weekend starts, three character medals will be on sale together with a Loadout of various items.

The top right medal, Vic Kureze 2023, is brand new and will be on sale for the first time. Once again Niantic seemed to have used an AI generated image for the design of this medal.

The left and bottom medal, Klue 2023 and K 2023 respectively, have been on sale via the Superposition Anomaly kits from Munich last year.

The Loadouts will cost 30 800 CMU (approx. 24€) each. It is currently unknown which items exactly will be included in the Loadout although chances are high that they'll contain 10 Rare Kinetic Capsules just like the last two rounds.

2023-06-09 00:57:07 Agent @MrChics and Niantic have collaborated to create some apparel designs for the upcoming CTRL Anomaly in Santa Cruz, Bolivia!

The first products of the IngressXMrChics series, T-shirts ($28) and Hoodies ($43), are available for purchase and pickup in Santa Cruz. Shipping may be an option, but you need to contact @MrChics before paying to coordinate.
We're also told that Niantic will make these items available on Amazon soon and more products from this series will be published later on!

2023-06-06 14:17:17 On July 15th a new Anomaly series will start: CTRL!

One of the sites for the first round is Rotenburg an der Fulda, a small village. As it doesn't have enough natural portals, Niantic recently added 146 temporary portals to the village to be used during the anomaly.

These temporary portals have a CTRL marketing image as their portal image! Thanks to that, we now know how the CTRL anomaly medal will look like as well as this anomalies slogan: "Join your faction. Take Ctrl."

Niantic has yet to officially announce the Q3 event schedule as well as the rules for CTRL.

2023-06-06 09:40:05 One of our Field Reporters is donating platelets as we speak! A platelet donation is much like a blood donation except that the platelets are seperated from your blood which is then going back into the body.

This type of donation takes longer (about an hour after being hooked up), but is just as important as donating blood! Our Field Reporter will be able to use the next hour to relax, read or hear music.

2023-06-06 09:31:51 Just like last year, June 14th is World Blood Donor Day! It is once again the perfect time to roll up your sleeve and donate some of that red gold in your body.

Need a little incentive? The folks of the #RedFaction are sending out a special embroidered patch for giving blood! Simply take a photo of yourself with your Ingress agent IGN somewhere in the picture while 'raising a sleeve' (donating a pint of the dark red stuff). Post the picture to Social Media and fill out the form on the website! There is no time limit for receiving the patch, donating blood does not have to be done on June 14th specifically and can instead be done all year round!

Can't donate blood? Agent @CtrlAltFck has created and shared files for a mission banner! You can use these to create a new banner to support the community as well.

We have received an urgent message from an anonymous source who claims to be close to Niantic. The informant, who claims to have managed to acquire a tiny string from a file stored in the NIA HQ databank, has asked for help from all Agents due to the message being encrypted and said that they need the help of Agents to try and decrypt it. Here is the message:

The anonymous messenger, has stated to IUENG that the only additional info they were able to recover from the leaked string, was some communication metadata, which read: A -> N.

2023-06-03 20:21:27 How to scan a portal for Overclock

A Wayspot needs to be VPS activated in the Niantic Lightship platform to appear as a Overclock activated Portal. If you haven't gotten any activated Portals around you, here is what needs to be done:

You will need to scan the Portal multiple times. For a location to be eligible for VPS activation, it must have at least 10 quality scans uploaded that pass minimum quality checks as determined by the Lightship server, and the time difference between the oldest and newest scans at the location must be at least 5 hours.

In the picture above, you can see recommendations on how to move around diffrent types of Portals.

It is highly recommended to create more than just 10 Portal scans. Once the Lightship server tries to activate a Wayspot, it'll check the quality of the scans. Depending on how well a Wayspot was scanned, Lightship will categorise it on how well it can be localised (determine the location of the phone via the camera feed):

- Failed: not enough Scans to create 3D model or other issue
- Fair: Wayspots with minimum required scans or a majority of scans in one type of lighting
- Good: Wayspots with several scans in all types of lighting

Only Wayspot that were categorised as "Good" will become an Overclock activated Portal!

At the moment, a Wayspot can only start the VPS activation process by developers of the Lightship platform or the Wayfarer Ambassadors via the beta of the Wayfarer app. Unless you know one of them a Wayspot can not be activated by players at this time.

That being said, the Wayfarer app is slated to release in the coming months for players as well which can then be used to start the activation process.

Once a Wayspot has been VPS activated and was categorised as "Good", it might take a few days to activate the Portal in Ingress as the status is only synced once daily with Lightship.

2023-06-02 14:10:55 After Update 2.117.1 released, Agents noticed that the usual pop-up reminding people to stay aware of their surroundings etc. was removed. After being unsure if this was a bug, Brian confirmed that the removal was intentional as the message is still shown under the Ingress logo during startup. He reminds Agents to continue to be aware of your surroundings even without the help of the pop-up.
