Manhaj of the Salaf

2022-04-27 22:42:41 Abdullah Ibn Masud (رضى الله عنه) said:

"A believer sees his sins as if he were sitting under a mountain which, he is afraid, may fall on him; whereas a Fājir (wicked evil-doer) considers his sins as flies passing over his nose and he just drives them away like this."

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) used to say:

« اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ مُنْكَرَاتِ الأَخْلاَقِ وَالأَعْمَالِ وَالأَهْوَاءِ ‏»

(Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min munkaratil-akhlaqi wal-a'mali wal-ahwa'i)

"O Allah, I seek refuge in You from evil character, evil actions, and evil desires."

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) used to say:

« اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنِي مِنَ الَّذِينَ إِذَا أَحْسَنُوا اسْتَبْشَرُوا وَإِذَا أَسَاءُوا اسْتَغْفَرُوا »

(Allahumma-j'alni minal-ladhina idha ahsanu-istabsharu, wa idha asa'u istaghfaru)

"O Allah, make me one of those who, if they do good deeds, they rejoice, and if they do bad deeds, they seek forgiveness."

And say: "My Lord! Forgive and have mercy, for You are the best of those who show mercy!" (23:118)

Here Allah is teaching us to recite this supplication, for forgiveness, in a general sense, means wiping away sins and concealing them from people, and mercy means guiding a person and helping him to say and do good things.

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:

"Indeed, your Lord is very pleased with His worshipper when he says:

« رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي إِنَّهُ لاَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ غَيْرُكَ ‏»

(Rabbighfirli dhunubi innahu la yaghfirudh-dhunuba gairuka)

O my Lord, forgive me my sins, indeed, no one other than You forgives sins."

Allah likes His servant who happens to make some mistake and confesses his fault, and asks Allah to forgive him with trust in Allah, while he repents and believes that no one else can forgive him. Open / Comment

BEFORE ENTERING The Toilet

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

"These Hushush (waste areas) are inhabited (by devils), so if one of you comes to the area in which he relieves himself, let him say:

« أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ »

(A'udhu billahi minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith)

"I seek refuge in Allah from all devils, male and female."

: Sunan Abi Dawud 6 | Hasan

« اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ »

(Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wa'l-khaba'ith)

O Allah, I seek refuge with You from male and female devils.

: Sunan Ibn Majah 296 | Sahih

AFTER EXITING The Toilet

Aishah (رضي الله عنها) narrated that:

"When the Prophet (ﷺ) exited the toilet, he would say:

« غُفْرَانَكَ »

(Ghufranaka)

I seek Your forgiveness."

: Sunan Abi Dawud 30 | Sahih

NOTE: These words should be said before entering the toilet/after exiting the toilet itself, because it is improper to utter Allah's Name while relieving oneself, as well as while on the toilet.

Shaykh Ibn Baz (رحمة الله) was asked: Is the du’a only for entering the bathroom, or is it only when a person wants to relieve himself?

He replied that: "It is mustahabb (recommended) to say the du'a for entering the bathroom in all cases, without limiting it to when a person is going to relieve himself."

رَّبِّ ٱغْفِرْ لِى وَلِوَٰلِدَىَّ وَلِمَن دَخَلَ بَيْتِىَ مُؤْمِنًا وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ وَلَا تَزِدِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ إِلَّا تَبَارًۢا

"My Lord! Forgive me, and my parents, and him who enters my home as a believer, and all the believing men and women. And to the Zâlimûn (polytheists, wrong-doers, and disbelievers) grant You no increase but destruction!"

"اے میرے رب! آپ مجھے اور میرے ماں باپ اور جو بھی ایمان کی حالت میں میرے گھر میں آئے اور تمام مومن مردوں اور عورتوں کو بخش دیں۔ اور کافروں کو سوائے بربادی کے اور کسی بات میں نہ بڑھائیں۔"
