2022-04-04 12:00:29 If you guessed Horsfield’s Flying Squirrel, you are absolutely correct!

Native to Singapore, the endangered Horsfield’s Flying Squirrel (Iomys horsfieldii) is an elusive creature found in Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and Central Catchment Nature Reserve.

A nocturnal animal, it emerges from its tree hole to forage on fruits and insects during the night, gliding amongst trees with its gliding membrane stretched across its four limbs.

An evergreen tree, the Seashore Mangosteen (Garcinia celebica) has cream-coloured flowers that occur in clusters of one to three.

Although its bright rose-red fruits resemble mangosteens, they smell surprisingly like apples. Don’t be fooled by the aroma though – its flesh has been noted to taste sour!
