It’s World Vet Day today!

A shout-out to veterinarians in Singapore and the important work they do to safeguard animal welfare and public health by protecting our community and pet animals against diseases.

The Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS) has been looking into advancing the professional standards and practices of Singapore’s veterinary sector, together with the Singapore Vet Association (SVA).

Growing to sometimes more than 5 metres in length and weighing up to 450 kg, the Critically Endangered Estuarine Crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) can be nothing short of imposing!

While not commonly seen, this large native reptile can be found in brackish and freshwater bodies, such as at Pulau Tekong and Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve.

Check out our crocodile advisory to find out what to do if you do encounter one while taking a walk in the Wetland Reserve.

Boasting clusters of bright red buds emerging from its maroon tubular calyx, the Lipstick Plant (Aeschynanthus pulcher) is sure to catch your attention!

This native plant is presumed to be Nationally Extinct in the wild. However, you can still find it at plant nurseries in Singapore. It can make for a great striking indoor plant with its distinct lipstick-like appearance.

2022-04-25 18:59:59 Planning to head down to our green spaces? Do check the visitorship levels on the safe distancing portal (https://safedistparks.nparks.gov.sg) first and avoid those with high visitorship.

Mask-wearing in outdoor settings such as parks, gardens and nature reserves is optional but continues to be required when you visit our indoor facilities, such as museums, galleries and enclosed visitor centres.

Let's all play our part to keep everyone safe! For more information and the latest advisories on the Covid-19 situation related to our parks and gardens, please visit www.nparks.gov.sg/noticeboard.
