Spanning 81 hectares, Chestnut Nature Park is Singapore’s largest nature park!
It is also the first nature park with separate mountain biking and hiking trails. You can also find native trees like the Braided Chestnut (
Castanopsis inermis) and Jelutong (
Dyera costulata), as well as birds such as the Straw-headed Bulbul (
Pycnonotus zeylanicus) and Banded Woodpecker (
Picus miniaceus) here.
Wondering how to get to Chestnut Nature Park? Watch our video to find out!

The Charming Bulbophyllum (
Bulbophyllum trigonopus) surely lives up to its name. Its umbels have up to 10 attractive flowers, each adorned with light yellow petals densely spotted with red!
Once widespread in Singapore’s swampy areas, this epiphytic native orchid was rediscovered at the Nee Soon freshwater swamp forest in 2010. It has since been successfully propagated and reintroduced at Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, Dairy Farm Nature Park, Pasir Ris Park, and Upper Peirce Reservoir Park!

Did you know that your pet cockatoo’s majestic crest can tell you a lot about how it is feeling?
A raised crest while dancing around is part of its mating ritual. While your pet may not have a potential mate in the house, it could be showing off for whoever is willing to give it attention!
The raised crest can also be a sign of aggression, especially if the bird is in the company of other birds. In other instances, it may be a sign of curiosity or simply a friendly greeting!

If you’ve ever seen a flash of yellow fly by, it might’ve been the Olive-backed Sunbird (
Nectarinia jugularis)! It’s named for its nectar-feeding habits, which is why it’s often found near flowers in our forests and parks. It has a quick wing beat, which makes it resemble a hummingbird.
Listen out for its crisp “tweet-tweet” and you just might spot this sunbird hovering nearby.
