Found it hard to tell them apart? Well, that may be because there are more than 30 species of sea stars in Singapore’s waters!

These sea stars are intricate animals with thin tissue around their feet to help them breathe in the water; if they are lifted from the water for long periods of time, they will suffocate. If you're at our intertidal zones, be sure to tread carefully and refrain from touching, collecting and trampling on the animals found there. Remember to take nothing but photos, and leave nothing but footprints!

Discover more about our island’s rich biodiversity and exciting marine habitats at this year’s Festival of Biodiversity on 21 and 22 May, with many exciting online and onsite activities!

Keeping a low profile today? So is the Thorny Bush Frog (Theloderma horridum)!

Rarely spotted in Singapore – not hard to see why – they are known to mostly reside in Bukit Timah Nature Reserve.

These masters of camouflage have warty skin that is mottled brown and grey, making them incredibly hard to spot when on tree barks!

Ever wondered what’s the difference between mangrove swamps and freshwater swamp forests? Or what freshwater swamp forests even are?

Find out in this virtual tour of Singapore’s Freshwater swamp forests. As one of the rarest ecosystems in Singapore, only a few patches remain, with the largest in Nee Soon Swamp Forest being only half a square kilometer in size. Don’t miss out on your chance to learn about this ecological gem of a habitat!

Have you seen these distinctive arrow-shaped leaves before? These leaves belong to the native Keladi Rimau (Alocasia longiloba) and look dark green from above but have a light green or purple underside!

A member of the family of aroids (Araceae), they are often grown as indoor ornamental plants for these attractive arrow-shaped leaves and tolerance for shaded conditions. In the wild, they are found in rainforests, swamp forests as well as along cliffs and riverbanks. Look out for them the next time you go on a walk.
