Native to Singapore, the Red Hot Poker (Uvaria grandiflora) has attractive fragrant flowers with red triangular petals.

The aromatic orange berry-like fruits are edible, can be eaten either raw or preserved. In Malaysia, the leaves and roots are cooked and eaten to treat abdominal pains and skin diseases.

Christmas at Fort Canning Park

Fort Canning Park gets a festive twist this holiday season, with beautiful lights and décor! The iconic Flagstaff, once an important communication landmark for the port at the Singapore River, has also been decorated as a giant Christmas tree!

2021-12-15 08:08:01 The Malayan Forest Betta is among one of the unique native species of fish that require oxygen from the air to survive, and not just from water!

Fishes that require oxygen from air have a specialised organ called the labyrinth, and are also known as labyrinth fishes. They have less developed gills and can survive out of water for a period of time, as long as they keep their body wet.
