Bamboo stems and leaves are traditionally made into canes, chopsticks, and musical instruments. They can even be used for scaffolding in construction, as some species have a tensile strength 10 times stronger than steel!

2021-12-06 05:01:05 It’s Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve’s anniversary! On this day in 1993, Sungei Buloh was first opened as a Nature Park. It has since been gazetted as a Nature Reserve, and is also Singapore’s first ASEAN Heritage Park!

Comprising 202 hectares of mangroves, mudflats, ponds, and forests, Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve is a haven for many of our native flora and fauna, and even migratory species like this Common Sandpiper (Actitis hypoleucos).

2021-12-02 12:00:55 Did you know that the Ornate Coraltail (Ceriagrion cerinorubellum) is a common native damselfly? Found in vegetated water bodies in our parks and gardens, it is easily identified by its bluish-green thorax and orange-black abdomen.

It is also a fierce predator, capable of tackling prey larger than itself!
