2022-04-10 21:22:59 Issue: If he asks (someone) about who is the most knowledgeable in this area (of which a questioner is inquiring about), and he is directed to two people:

One is ṣāḥib ḥadīth (ie: a muḥaddith who knows the narrations of the) Prophet ﷺ, and another is a ṣāḥib rāʿī wa qiyās (ie: person of opinion and analogical deduction),

Then he should ask the person of ḥadīth,

And it is not allowed for him to ask the person of opinion at all.

The evidence for this is the Statement of Allah the Mighty and Majestic: {And today I have perfected for your your religion} [5:3]

And He the Exalted said: {So that you explaint to the people that which has been revealed to them} [16:44]

So this is the dīn (ie: religion that has been perfected and explained by Muḥammad ﷺ by way of narrations),

And there is no religion but this,

And al-rāʿī wa ʿl-qiyās al-dhan bāṭil (ie: opinions, analogical deductions, and speculation in the religion are invalid).

Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger ﷺ said: “Beware of al-dhan (ie: guess-work and speculation) is akḏab al-ḥadīth (ie: the most false of speech).”

2022-04-10 08:54:21 ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. al-Mahdī said: I asked Shuʿbah (b. al-Ḥajjāj) to explain allaḏī yutraku hadituhu (ie: who is the person whose narratives should be abandoned)?

He replied: “man yuttahamu bi ʿl-kaḏib (ie: a person who is blamed of lying),

man yukthiru ʿl-ġalat (ie: who makes many mistakes),

who errs in a narrative which is agreed upon by all and still does not blame himself for this error and remains adamant on his mistake,

And a person who rawá ʿan al-maʿrufīn bimā la yaʿrifuhu ʿl-maʿrufūn (ie: narrates from known people what these known people do not even know).”

If you become angry, then I will try to please you.

Were we not to act this way, how quickly would we be separated!”
