World internet day is happening this Friday, the 29th of October 2021. For years, attempts were made to connect one another such as through mail, telephone and telegraphs. Today, we connect to one another just by an instant, through the internet.

It is so important that we take care of this online world and we stand for advocating for a safe, affirming and encourage online environment where people from all over the world can connect and be supported for their mental health. What are #boundaries and why do we need them?

Most of us have developed a people-pleasing way of life because we've not been taught how to say no.

Setting boundaries set the stage for guiding you towards what you want and who you want to become.
It is a sign of appreciation for the relationships you are holding. The most important relationship being the one with yourself.

Setting boundaries take time and energy to create and reinforce so it should not be confused with an act of defence. In some sense, it is a way of protecting yourself. But the approach should be out of love for yourself, not fear. When we set boundaries out of love, they look like a well-maintained garden fence. It is a clear demarcation of areas that are welcomed by the public. But if we do it out of fear, it becomes a fortress.

It’s a #HuddleChallenge

Often, stress arises when we perceive that we are no longer in control of our tasks. We become overwhelmed by the fear and uncertainty that our tasks cannot be completed within the required time.

Make a schedule
Getting organised by making a realistic schedule can alleviate worry and stress because it changes your perception that the tasks can be targeted within your control this time.

You may find out that not everything can be completed in one day, so carry on tasks to the next day or create a plan for the week. Give yourself an extra 1-2 hours to finish all tasks.

To further alleviate overwhelming feelings, set 3 goals for the day and ensure leisure time is scheduled in so you don’t get drained!

Normalising the caring of each others' mental health can be so crucial, especially in workplaces where stressors are rife. One simple way we can care for one another is by asking co-workers genuine questions.

When someone asks "how are you?" or "how's work?", we tend to assume that they are asking about work and not about us. Thus, we are very likely to give a work-related answer. One consequence from such a response can include the feeling of not being cared for in the workplace - apart from our work responsibilities. This can produce unwanted feelings of worthlessness and purposeless in the workplace, especially during the times when we are feeling not up to task.

The truth is every single person matters, no matter what their work responsibilities are.
